Robert Durst stands trial for the 2000 murder of friend Susan Berman. The trial began just before the pandemic in early 2020 and was halted two weeks in. The restart happened on May 17, 2021, with the same jury panel.
The defendant’s wife Kathleen McCormack Durst went missing in 1982. Evidence and testimony would show that Robert Durst killed her, the prosecutor said. The defendant allegedly told Berman it was an accident and asked her for help. She served as his alibi.
Berman, 55, was shot execution-style at her Beverly Hills home in 2000, and the prosecution suggested that it was because of what she knew about Kathleen’s death and disappearance. As defense lawyer Dick DeGuerin would have it, however, Durst is innocent. His client only came across the body, panicked, and fled, he maintained.

He's being challenged by the prosecutor about his credibility and he has completely stopped reading the screen. He's looking directly at the prosecutor and is able to hear just fine.

This case brings new meaning to the phrase "roll the clip!" whenever Durst is busted with a lie.

"Roll the clip! Where's the clip? You got the clip? Anyone got a clip?" The prosecution completely fumbled that attempt in part 1 and the impact is lost as a result. He kept saying "Let's just assume you said X... and let's just assume you said Y..." because he didn't have the clip ready like he thought. And the funny part is how confident the guy was that he had the clip ready to roll. We need a camera on this guy's face for when he fumbles like that.

When Durst suddenly got ticked off and smarmy about Lewin, saying he might want to look up a word on an app--Durst inadvertently exposed that he is not quite the addled man that he'd have us believe. He still thinks he's the smartest, sharpest person in any room.

Yeah but... DeGuerrin will have been paid $1 million+ for this trial. Does it really matter in the end for him? He already made $600,000 out of Durst for the Galveston trial in 2003. Whatever happens, Durst has put his kids through college, paid for his boat, etc.

Watch when he talks without the screen he is lip reading with limited/impaired hearing. When someone is looking directly at you they may be reading lips either intentionally or without knowing it.

OMG! He’s denying assaulting Kathie at any time and that they never discussed divorce AND that he never told anyone to get rid of her possessions. I can’t take it!! The fact that he’s trying to blame others for what he has said- “Andrew told me to say that” in regards to the hair pulling incident. He is really a sick man. I don’t know how they came up with a childhood diagnosis of schizophrenia- yes, he talks to himself- but does he hear voices or suffer from disorganized thinking? He seems like he suffers from a personality disorder such as narcissistic personality disorder/antisocial personality disorder (sociopath/psychopath) lacking remorse and lacking the ability to feel others pain and many other traits.

Justice is LONG overdue for Kathie, Morris and Susan and any other possible victims. Did you hear about the cold case in California close to Trinidad where Durst lived? 14 yr. old girl who went missing and has never been found. Apparently she got into a vehicle with an older man and the witness sketch/police artist picture is CREEPY and gave me chills. The female judge from his Texas case said the forensic evidence showed that the defendant had “done this before.” (Mutilation).

Idk, I’d probably get highly annoyed also, only coz it seems as though Durst goes to answer some of the questions and then his lawyer objects. Also, right now he’s objecting to mainly questions about go fish, and frisbee, like we get it he’s a liar, can we please move on!? Lol it would be different if most if objections weren’t overruled, but then again, I’m not a lawyer and he gets paid the big bucks, I was just not in a good mood on the day I made this comment lol.

I am not sure why Lewis proceeded with the line of questions to Durst about lying to help his case. Every person whether innocent or guilty IS NOT going to help the prosecution put them in prison. When he was asking Durst if he understood the difference between having a good memory and a truthful memory, that question made no sense. A good memory is also viewed to be a truthful memory, they are usually one and the same and not mutually exclusive. A trial is an adversarial process between the defendant and prosecutor. The whole are you a liar, is a silly line of questioning. He is also digging himself into a hole painting Durst as a prolific liar. If Lewis is successful in establishing that as a fact then he cannot parse Durst's prior statements to his benefit as evidence of murder.

Durst changed his story and admitted to writing the cadaver note in late 2019, early 2020, you can google it. The reason he admitted to writing it, after denying he did in The Jinx, IMO, is because his lawyers saw that the cadaver note was a real problem for bob, so they changed their story, which i don't believe a word of, its just another one of bobs many lies.

Lewin's cross examination is a train wreck for the state. See my comment above (or wherever it is) for my explanation. It's shocking how poorly Lewin is doing.

@@shanesmith906 I totally agree this trial should have lasted no more than a week or two and is a huge waste of money and resources. I like this judge because he is fair to both sides. I do believe Durst should be tried for his crimes.

This cross examination by DA Lewin is a train wreck for the state. His cross examination is a huge disappointment. It's shocking that this DA doesn't understand one of the cardinal rules of cross examination that all law school students learn, don't make the foundation of your cross examination the asking of open ended questions. It's shocking how clueless this DA is. Durst may be a triple murderer but he is most definitely a very intelligent man. Lewin hasn't laid a glove on this frail, elderly man. Lewin's approach is wrong, wrong, wrong. Lewin is so confident of his belief in Durst's guilt that he can't recognize that Bob Durst's common sense replies deflate any impact Lewin hoped he would achieve. Lewin is so far afield that he has no idea that Durst is winning these exchanges. It's shocking.

I think you been watching something else. Lewin doing great work. Showing his respect someone elderly even he is a killer. He is calm and Durst happy to talk to someone not aggressive to him.

I think you forgot the 2nd cardinal rule taught in law school. When you have a defendant on the stand who is a narcissist & determined to not only dig his own hole, but keep digging it deeper, you ABSOLUTELY ask open ended questions. Because the more this fool talks, the less the state has to do. Durst will simply convict himself. Granted I’m not even half way through this video but what I’ve witnessed thus far has been brilliant.

@@maryb6672 Perhaps you went to law school with Lewin. The "2nd cardinal rule" that you mentioned does not exist. Such a strategy would be disastrous for a DA. If you watched Lewin's performance today you could not fail to notice how frustrated and out of control he became as he realized he couldn't shake Robert Durst. Lewin was shouting, insulting and bullying Durst. The DA just couldn't move on from one brief example of Durst's odd behavior after another. Events or moments that occurred decades ago that may or may not have happened. I was waiting for someone from his team to whisper in Lewin's ear, "Move on, you're getting nowhere and you're putting the jury to sleep". However, no one rescued him.

This is amazing. The prosecutor is completely flustered and unprepared. "Uhh... okay let's move on..." - take a shot of Jack or hit the meth pipe every time he says that. (Bonus Round: Smoke and/or pop a percocet every time the prosecutor plays a clip from a movie and questions Durst as if it's real and he's Ryan Gosling.)
