For me, the ending is superb...John doesn't die, he comes back with Sadie and Charles, in his ranch...Sadie isn't hurt much...and then it's the end (the credits)...and there, during the credits, we see John's wedding, Charles' departure for Canada, Sadie's departure for Mexico...And the "uncle" stays at the ranch (he didn't die)...The ending is not the same for everyone.

RDR games always imply that the characters cannot escape the wrongs they've done in the past. Somehow, it comes back to haunt them eventually even if they tried to change for the better. In other words, u still get punished even if u are forgiven.
