It's crazy how much rdr2 makes this ending feel even more lonely. You had this big cast of characters you got to know and love/hate. Then slowly they either die or leave. Even if he was a scumbag, Ross's death is sad, leaving a feeling of quiet loneliness as all that's left is Jack.

I like to think that Jack, knowing love from an early age on and being as intelligent/self aware as he is, was able to truly appreciate Arthur and John’s sacrifices and learn from their failures. He kills Ross not just to avenge his father, but to “close the book” on their saga and is the one to truly go straight afterward. Unfortunately with the theme of the game I doubt it. The theme highlighting the vicious cycle of violence in their lifestyle. John robbed and stole, setting himself up to be used, and then disposed of by a evil man, which then instills vengeance and hate in Jacks heart for how wronged his Father was in the end. Not to mention after killing a government official like that.. its likely Jack is now a wanted man like his Father was.. even if Jack is a good man like his Father was.

While Arthur's death is sad you expect it, you know he's only got so long and at least when he dies he gets to face the rising sun. It's bitter-sweet and beautiful. John's death is just gut wrenching. It's surprising, it's brutal and it's visceral. It comes from nowhere because John has been shown to wipe out entire squads of military so you think he's going to win but he doesn't. It doesn't help that it goes into Dead Eye making you think you have the advantage. Reality hits you like a sack of bricks. You know what makes this scene beautiful? In a happy/sad type of beauty? Jack seems genuinely happy about being praised by John on his work in the beginning. When John says "you're real good with them tools". Jack voice raises a bit in almost disbelief/surprise his father complimented on his craftsmanship. The way he says "thank you, pa" his voice cracks. It's subtle, but it's a compliment that Jack didn't expect. His eyes move back and forth trying to find a hint of sarcasm, but there is none and he got a genuine compliment from the baddest living mfer in the west. He is not used to this, since John is always trying to help him, whether it is shooting a gun or hunting, for once John actually has no criticism in Jack. Which is a big step in finally realizing your child has become independent in something without your guidance/advice. It's a huge deal to anyone that's had tough/judgemental parents. Then, when John and Jack discuss the invention of the airplane, Jack says "them machines could turn men into angels". Right after he mentions the day John Marston stops shooting. And what did turn John Marston into an angel that very day? Multiple metal machines of gunfire ripping thru his mortal body, turning that man into an angel. I'm sure this was intended by the writers. But if not, then damn, they wrote a masterpiece on so many levels with so many layers. I love this game

My favourite subtle detail about this is the fact Archer, Ross's right hand man throughout the game, wasn't actually present for this mission. Given how he personally congratulated John after Dutch's death and acknowledged that John had done all of this despite loathing every second of it, it's fair to assume Archer refused to partake in killing John out of respect for him, even if he couldn't stop it from going ahead.
@RealDuckyVr Жыл бұрын
I think its fitting how john and arthur both make the same sacrfice, Arthur fighting off micah and the pinkertons so john would have time to run saying to "Run and dont look back" and john 12 years or something like that later fighting off the pinkertons and telling jack "keep riding and dont look back". John knew what he had to do the second he delivered that line. he knew he was to suffer the same fate as arthur. Just shows how much level of detail the writers of the read dead series put.

Any decade now, more like 😂 Next year they will have milked GTA V for 11 goddamn years, it's ridiculous! As much as I love GTA, and even moreso the Red Dead Redemption series, I miss the days when Rockstar didn't restrict themselves to two IPs - "L.A. Noire", "Oni" (I would KILL for a follow-up to that classic), "Midnight Club", "Max Payne", "Manhunt", "The Warriors", "Smuggler's Run", "Bully", "State of Emergency", hell even "Beaterator" and "Table Tennis"... would be SO good to see some of those neglected games/series make a triumphant next-gen comeback. Particularly "Oni", "Bully", "Smuggler's Run" and "Manhunt" - the latter used to be one of the company's most [in]famous series! They need to diversify a bit, because releasing only two games in a decade is, quite frankly, **depressing**! 😅 ...Gotta say though it would be SO sweet if they did a second "State of Emergency" also, that game had SO much potential, and since then there haven't been any noteworthy attempts at replicating its unique mechanics and aspects; the whole riot concept was disappointingly constricted by the PlayStation 2/Xbox but now they could easily realise it at ten times the magnitude, simulating an entire city and massive, violent crowds within it. It would essentially be GTA but in a hostile, dangerous city - maybe during a coup or revolution or something - where each district is controlled by different insurgent groups, though some are also controlled by heavily-armoured highly-militarised cops. The player character gets caught in the chaos and can ally themselves with one of the many insurgents, or join the police force (they're desperate and will take anyone at this point), or if they're reckless enough they can try to survive on their own. The player could also betray factions and play them off each other, as well as declare war on any other faction and initiate a takeover of their territory and seizure of their assets. They could also add low-key alternatives, like maybe you could partake in espionage and sabotage to achieve your goals, for example for espionage you could join one group as an undercover agent for another group, and then begin stealing technological blueprints or scientific research that would give your side an advantage; for sabotage you could maybe sneak into an insurgent base and slash the tires of all their vehicles, or start a fire in one of their drug labs or at one of their food crops, or interrupt their supply chain by bribing or killing their trade contacts... And speaking of trade, the game could have a fairly complex trading system where factions randomly trade with each other in real-time, and each transaction uses one of the faction's actual trucks to deliver and receive goods, so you could destroy a faction's entire fleet of trucks and they would be unable to trade for say, 20 minutes IRL time or something. Sorry for rambling lol, "State of Emergency" just had so much potential and it was such a unique concept with the rioting and chaos in the streets, and with the capabilities of current gen it would be the perfect time to actually try and fully realise that concept without crappy hardware limitations. Sadly I'm sure Rockstar has totally forgotten that game even existed, but hopefully someone somewhere utilises that concept in a game eventually because it's too awesome to just let it go to waste! 😅😂

I like to think that after killing Dutch the lawmen let John go and he lived the rest of his life with his family. Isn't true but makes me feel better

I remember completing this masterpiece for the first time, and having my heart completely shattered at the ending, then once I got my revenge I was a happy camper. Absolutely well crafted masterpiece of a game 🤝

I really love how the entire red dead redemption 1 sountrack is made with dozens of stems and its amazing. For example at 5:20 the music was pretty dramatic for the guy who recorded this video but for me there was no music. Its completely random (except for actual tracks like triggernometry etc etc) and because of that when in free roam you do something cool and the music understands the assingment its legendary. I would also like to appologize for my large amount of yapping and rip john

It's incredible. The layers it adds as the action ramps up is perfect. A perfect system.

Its easy to make a happy ending and its even easier to make a bad ending but to make an ending that is depressing but at the same time satisfying is one of this game (and the sequel's) greatest achievements when it comes to the story and it leaves a long lasting impression on you.
