I’ll say this much, I’m one of those who don’t like his music but i will say this, he’s an amazing guitarist. Always cool to watch him do solos and wail on the six string but never really cared for the actual songs. This one has an 80s vibe to it, kinda like a new old stock song from that bygone era which is nice in contrast to what’s going on now but still not my cup of tes. He does have a legion of fans so he must be doing something right.

The keyboard player in the video is Greg Phillinganes, who was in Eric Clapton’s band and played on all of his records in the 80s, and Mayer’s guitar tone is an exact copy of Clapton’s during that time. Songs like “It’s in the Way That You Use It”.

In case anyone didn't spot it, the Toto connection is more than just the sound-a-like of Africa. You have Greg Phillinganes from Earth, Wind & Fire on keyboards who was a permanent Toto member for a little while and played on the Falling in Between album. Meanwhile Paulinho da Costa is the percussionist who has played on almost every Toto album and tours with them still. I take this as a tribute to Toto and possibly Steve Winwood and is probably the best song I've heard for a couple of years now :-)
