John is the quentin tarantino of music, he borrows from and tributes the greats and favorites while making it his own, he has two Toto members on the record and stage, the video is filled with trivia, the soldano amp in the background is one Clapton used in the 80s,there is also a roland chorus amp that is what makes his guitar sound bit different than before, the white acoustic is also a Clapton signature from the 80s that is really rare, without pickguard its super rare.

God damn it, is he good. That's why I never listen to the "oh my god, John Mayer's new album is going to be bluesy/pop/80's/jazzy/etc" and let it form an opinion before I've heard it. John is so good at blending into whatever genre he feels he needs to do. I have total faith in his ability to create great music that is well composed, so I don't worry about whether or not he's doing a different thing from album to album. People who say that he isn't a talented artist just aren't being honest. You don't have to be a fan of the music to appreciate it for what it is.
