Enjoy this surprise like I did!!!! Driving back from the show right now! In awe!
Mayer was opening as an alternative for Khalid, Ed Sheeran asked him the possibility of him opening since the two are friends. Mayer was doing it as a favor as he is touring with Dead and Company.
You can read about it here!
johnmayer/status/...
I do not own these songs or performance, was just filming it for those who could not attend.

Confession, I jumped on Stubhub Saturday morning and purchased over priced club seats when I learned John was opening for Ed. I was sadly misinformed about Saturday night's show, but it did NOT disappoint. Instead, Ed cast a spell on me and my husband with his loop pedal sorcery. ❤

I would rather imagine that it's awesome that I'm even there getting to watch two talented people share their gifts. I promise you that my brain might notice differences, but my heart won't care and my body would just dance. Everything else is an opinion that won't affect my enjoyment or reality. Billy Joel has said Elton John is a better pianist, but they both sound great to me. Maybe he's right. I don't super care who opens for whom if I get to go listen to them both on the same night.

good job filming this for the rest of us. great performance. I love the fact that he got to have that feeling of being an opening act and experience the humbleness that comes with having to win over a crowd. He is a world class musician and songwriter having to acknowledge that maybe the crowd hasn't heard his songs. He's so used to the crowd reacting to him. but.. he does it doesn't he? he works for the attention of the audience and gets it. no star fit about it. a pro. humble.

I didn't realize until watching him play simple chords, but it isn't what he plays but HOW he plays that brings out emotions in me. Such a perfect mix of skill and passion.
@skygunner777
@skygunner777 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is generally easy for even me as an amateur to play the chords and even most of the guitar riffs (except Neon, which seems to vary anyway) but the impact of the performer also lies in the timbre of their voice and the variance in rhythm and melodic choice in the accompanying guitar.
@4x4sauce
@4x4sauce Жыл бұрын
@@skygunner777 He gave a little talk about dynamics in a clinic video that I remember, just about giving a song an arc as you perform it and giving each verse its own variances in volume and rhythm technique.

@@4x4sauce That makes sense as part of the skills that seem to amaze many people is how he can coordinate the vocals with his guitar to do justice to the song.

Funny how our taste in music just keeps evolving... I never really got John Mayer before... Kept me entertained up until he sang Gravity... And then he had me. The passion behind those lyrics is something else. Had a true fan out of me by time he left that stage.
