He may be surprised just how many albums he would sell. There IS a market for gospel hymns. He's missing a great opportunity. I guess it takes more courage than he's got to do a whole album. He could do it for a Christian charity if he didn't want to worry about the risk of "that album didn't sell as many copies".

This moved my heart. I'm a massive John Mayer fan and I legit admire him as a human being (yes. I do. He's brilliant) and as an artist. I'm also a Christian; and whether people get it or not, we believe in an eternity, and we want EVERYONE to be on the good side of eternity and understand the love of God. This gave me a snippet of a John who uses all his talents and essence to give praise to God and it is BEAUTIFUL.

Everything you said I say too and more. I couldn’t articulate as well as you. This brought me to my knees when I heard it as it is probably my favorite hymn of all time. And made me love and appreciate John’s heart more than I thought I could. His heart is pure and kind and good. It renewed something in me - I seem to be seeing more and more selfishness in people - the golden rule a thing of the past - him having his platform showing his audiences that selflessness isn’t out of style warmed my heart

guitargeekette John Mayer is NOT a Christian, nor is he even a believer. As a matter of fact if u look within enough videos of interviews, he gives a very agnostic view of what he thinks when it comes to God. Though it’s understandable since he was raised in a half Christian half Jewish home, He does not carry the example of a Christian whatsoever. Though he did perform this hymn, he lives The exact opposite lifestyle that Jesus tells us to live in the gospel and I quote: John 14, Mathew 24.

Markus Bettig she didn’t say it was necessary to be kind. She said if everyone had gods love in their heart to love one another hatred could be rid of this world. But too many people love their sin and temptations of the flesh more, and have satan in their heart. This is his kingdom and it’s a fallen world. all she said was positive and you of course had to be negative. There’s always two sides to a coin, well stay on the positive, God’s love side, God bless 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I agree. I've been a fan of John since I was a teenager, and I expected him to maybe say a few words of condolences, but not something like this. As a New Zealander, this was especially moving to watch. The Maori verses were beautiful, and the performance as a whole gave me a feeling of comfort and peace. The haka at the end was a way to honor those we have lost. You can see some of the women in the hapa haka crying. I am stunned, yet incredibly touched, that an American artist went to such lengths to ensure not only a touching tribute, but a culturally compassionate one too, by incorporating the christian religion which is dominant in NZ, and the significance of the Maori culture and language to New Zealanders. All of this from someone who isn't kiwi, who isn't religious and who doesn't speak the Maori language. Compassion, understanding and the need to comfort go beyond all of that. This speaks volumes about the kind of person John is. I love how the drummer stays still the entire performance, just watching and respectfully observing too. I have read he closed the show with Heart of Life, which was perfect. Such a compassionate way to open and then close a show. People in their majority are good. Always look for the good.

The female singer (wish I knew her name) was singing initially by herself in Māori language. For a tiny country of 5million, New zealand has an abundance of brilliant Māori and islander singers. Strong foundation of learning music, harmonies etc, singing in church.
