Love him or hate him, he is doing what he can to keep guitar licks and lead in popular music. Sir, you’re a f@cking idiot. ALL MR. Mayer has done (and has based his entire career around) has been ripping SRV off since day one! Stevie actually created so many various styles, techniques, and certainly ‘trademark licks and bends’ that were undeniably his OWN, that you could identify his playing and overall ‘sound’ within seconds of the needle dropping on the record
@bradmorris9812
@bradmorris9812 6 жыл бұрын
All that Mayer has done has been to COPY and CLONE nearly everything from SRV’s licks, techniques, trademark bends, etc, etc. - to even designing his own guitars right down to nearly the exact same specs (& that’s been WELL documented and proven at this point.) Now he’s even ‘sanding’ down the actual finish of his guitar to make it look both like he’s been playing for nearly 60 years AND so it would look even more like SRVs number one?!!! What a freakin POSER!! And yet, you have the AUDACITY to even claim that ‘thank GOD for John Mayer for keeping not only SRVs ‘sound’ alive, but JIMI HENDRIX’s as well?!! Were you just born completely retarted or is this just your natural, moronic self? You’re actually stating that SRV & Hendrix’s careers would have tanked and faded into oblivion if they were to have remained alive. (what a complete idiot you are) AND, that if it wasn’t for the grace and ‘god-given-talent’ of John Mayer ‘fuc@face’ himself, blues as we know it would have died out right along with them. Dude, SRV could outplay your Johnny boy while strung out on crack and smack simultaneously, with one arm severed from his body, after getting out of his own damn coffin!!! (are you freaking kidding me with this crap?) “Your body is a wonderland....” No John, your ‘body of work’ is complete shit and a complete joke in the world of blues. And trying to rip off and copy everything of SRV’s that you can from his music and style, all the way down to his string gauge and what name brand of picks he used - makes you a total and complete disgrace to not only SRV & his incredible accomplishments - but to the ENTIRE WORLD AND COMMUNITY of Blues. (but not to worry John, you’ve at LEAST got this mindless prick to worship the mighty all-talented ground you walk upon.) What a fuc@ing joke.

I wonder exactly how different a speaker cabinet made from 3/4 "solid wood makes from those made of 3/4 " or 15 ply plywood materials when they are both joined together using the same technique ( dovetail ) ? If the remainder of the cabinet and speaker system is made of the same components I can't believe that it would make any difference whatsoever.

+Mo Bobb More precisely open back speaker cabinets have neutral behavior characteristics. It means that the cabinet doesn't really have an effect on the sound. An open back cabinet sounds like its loudspeakers. In case of closed back cabinets the acoustic resonance of the box is an important factor. The box behaves like an additional EQ. A closed back cabinet might have significantly more bass, less mid, compared to the open back cabinet of the same size with the same speakers. This "EQ effect" of a closed cabinet depends on user preferences and design.

Putting on a live show is a collaboration between many people, most of whom do not perform on stage. These are professional people that absolutely know their business, and because of them the artist has the freedom to perform with out being bogged down with every single last detail prior to each performance. Teamwork makes a great show great. This particular video is of interest to any that might wonder how some of the gear relates with the artist the amps pedals switching systems etc.

40 road guitars? Come on, that is nothing more than him doing the "rock star" thing. That is like a singer who brings 30 mics, a keyboardist that brings 40 pianos, etc, It's so he can do the "Nigel Tufnel" "...I love them all, I cherish them all...DON"T TOUCH THAT!"
@ChinchillupaGuy
@ChinchillupaGuy 9 жыл бұрын
Danny Criss 30 mics will probably sound the same, and 40 pianos will probably sound the same. Different electrics have different sounds, you should know that since you have a guitar head as your profile picture. (that is unless you've only played strats in your life time. If that's the case, believe me, they sound different)
@charliefoxtrotthe3rd335
@charliefoxtrotthe3rd335 9 жыл бұрын
Chinchillupa Guy I am a Strat guy for sure, but I own many different types of guitars, from SG's to Les Pauls and all that. And each one has it's own unique sound. But 40? The normal number for a touring guitarist, like Eric Johnson, is about 12 to 16, depending on the musician. Primaries, backups, different tunings, etc. I get all that. But I can tell you that one Strat compared to an identical Strat does not sound that much different. especially live. So why have 20 identical guitars? Eh, it doesn't matter anyways, it's all academic. They are going to do whatever they want to do, we just talk about it!
@ChinchillupaGuy

They say John Mayer sold out to get famous and then realized he better find a way to "get back home". Let's remember that John Mayer started out as an acoustic rock guy, not a bluesman in terms of guitar. The reality is, he's probably one of the better and more down to earth songwriters than most of his peers - because he respects his guitarist history. He knows he's not SRV or Clapton or BB, but he'll sure as hell copy the shit out them to make good music. Some say that's him continuing to sell out, but which guitarist amongst us hasn't tried to clone another's tone? Don't we do this everyday? Don't we want to know their secrets and tricks to use them for ourselves? There are no intellectual property rights when it comes to tone. If it's good it's good. If it rocks it rocks. John Mayer is just the same as any of us who seek to improve ourselves.

He actually started out as a blues guy, then when he started writing songs before he left Berklee School of Music, he realized how it was so much more important to write good songs with great lyrics then to just have good blues solos.

Mayer is every bit as good as SRV, BB King and Clapton. Even Clapton has said that Mayer is an absolute master of the guitar. Some might argue that he’s better. He’s certainly a more rounded player than any of the three mentioned.

Yeah, he has made some pretty rough guitars playable - Stevie's no. 1 would have KILLED a modern player. Most people couldn't even bend a note on it. Bridge cables for strings, rusty, crusty, pieced together hardware and even shrink wrap on the strings all the way through the body up to the saddle because Stevie was breaking 52's like they were 9's. Legendary guitar tech.

I stumbled onto using both open & closed. I use a 2x12 open back on the bottom & a sealed 2x12 on top of it. The open has more bass, the sealed more mids/highs. I think it's the best of both worlds.

Continued, on the Hi-Watt.The Hi-Watt blew up during a live show. I went home during a break and got a practise amp, 60 dollar Gorilla solid state with a vey smooth overdrive. Small, unseen on stage. I miked it and all my music buds could not get enough of how good the Hi-Watt was sounding obviously now well broken in as I was now used the Hi-Watt for a bass head stand! This went on for months until I was busted.

Cool stuff. It’s funny though, too, now that I’ve seen Eric Clapton’s Rig Rundown. Clapton’s setup is extremely minimalistic; three identical Strats and two identical Martins and a fancy custom no-pickup acoustic. Crazy stuff. On a related note, I would love to learn how often the strings get changed on a spread like John’s.

For the guys talking bad about the tech. Rene Martinez is the guy that runs on stage after Stevie Breaks a string and attaches a new guitar mid song. Mr. Martinez is literally a superstar in the world of guitar. In Texas he is royalty. He set up all of Stevies guitars and rebuilt the broken ones. He is also a world renowned flamenco guitarist. He's so good that Clapton had him perform at the first crossroads festival.

40 guitars to play 14 or 15 songs? Wow. I think I understand more about why John Mayer can't decide on 1 woman too. I hope Rene doesn't have to change all the strings every night. I recently watched a BB King show on video from the early 1980s. He didn't change guitars once...still Lucille. I don't think he even tuned it. It sounded awesome on every song.
