Professor Merriman specializes in modern France, urban and social history, and modern European history since the Renaissance. He has written numerous books, including The Red City: Limoges and the French Nineteenth Century; Margins of City Life: Explorations on the French Urban Frontier; and Dynamite Club: How A Café Bombing Ignited the Age of Modern Terror.
