Almost half a century after she died, this character's main business is "Did I tell you about the time I f%$&@d old Judy Garland?" Impoverished, homeless, alienated from her family, and zonked out on booze, uppers and downers, Judy had finally fried her brain and didn't know what she was doing. If he hadn't given her free lodging, food, booze, and drugs, she wouldn't have given him the time of day. It was mere weeks before she ditched this hanger-on out of boredom, as she had so many others. How this story is not seen as one of profound embarrassment, I don't know.

Thank you Krenwinkle for speaking up and exposing this character Meyer, who had the gall to write what he calls a book, dealing with the last days of Judy. He's as gay as a goose (he was playing show tunes in a gay bar at the time) and his main objective was to get a recording of Judy singing one of his cockamaymee songs.....His book was vulgar and brash, just like him.....and time has proved him to be an opportunist and looser. What he needs to do is rewrite that book and tell the truth this time; admit he was just another gay man obsessed with Judy....and used her until she caught on to him and threw him away. Pretty sad to be replaced by a creep like Mickey Deans....but John Meyer has proved to be a bigger gay creep than most.

This comment shows everyone how little you know of chemical dependency. John Meyer thought he could rescue her , give her hope to carry on and her disease was too much for him as he was left exhausted and sick in hospital like daughter Lorna trying to keep up 24/7 with an addict. Judy’s addiction was too much for Garland in a day when the disease of addiction was poorly understood - basically at the level of your comment. At this point Judy was trying to survive and she wore , her disease wore everyone out. They couldn’t keep up with her .

@@lenwelch2195 Rehab establishments were in existence for Hollywood addicts as far back as silent film. Sanitoriums, half-way houses, and- as Neely O'Hara called them- loony bins- were set up for major stars like Wallace Reid, Jeanne Eagles, Alma Rubens, Barbara LaMarr, Olive Borden, (not that you've heard of them until this moment), and of course, lesser lights. Their problem was usually heroin, coke, and opium. It was the same formula then: put the patient on a fixed schedule, feed them, get them involved in physical activities, and wean them off their drug of choice. Even in Judy's "A Star Is Born" there was a scene involving Norman Maine confined to a rehab center. The idea that drug addiction was a recent phenomenon and poorly understood during Judy's lifetime is something only very sheltered and uninformed person would entertain. The thing I find annoying about millennials is that I have belts older than you, yet you are confident you know, if not everything, well... a lot. And you don't.
