“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver knew he’d hit rock bottom as a stand-up comedian when he found himself performing between a fart singer and a professional regurgitator.

I worked as a stand-up comedian for a number of years in Australia, and have had the "pleasure" of working with both Mr Methane, and Stevie Starr (Multiple Times). Not at the same gig, but in the height of their respective touring careers. And I agree with John... They were both extraordinarily lovely people, and it was great to meet and work with them. But it does surprise me that they can still have performing careers after so many years.

I've seen Mr. Methane on Dutch television some 10 to 20 years ago. He was quite serious about his art. He told the reporter something to the extent that he was wary about accepting invitations to perform in certain places. He was determined to keep up standards, he did not want to make a spectacle about it or sell out his talent. All with a straight face. This probably only works in Britain.

I swear as John was telling the story of Mr. Methane I thought “That guy should tour with Stevie Starr.” If it makes you feel better John in 1996 I went to a trade show where colleges book live entertainment repping a band I was friends with and I was in the booth directly across from Stevie and got to witness his act over and over and over again for an entire 3 day weekend. He’s a super nice guy, and for anyone wondering it’s not magic he really actually does that stuff.

Five months of SAG-AFTRA strike, and Colbert's Late Show comes roaring back with a clip of John Oliver discussing - in excruciating detail - two stand-up acts involving performative flatulence and controlled regurgitation, and how he bombed by telling Desert Storm jokes between them. I don't know precisely what the fuck this catastrophically stupid timeline has in store for late night television as it currently stands, but if it's this kind of thing then I'm absolutely here for it.

Mr. Methane won a Tony award a few years ago and rightly so. He has mastered the art of not only just being able to break wind at will, but he can actually ensure the gastric emmisions which blow out of his posterior, are so precisely modulated, he can fart TWICE AT THE SAME TIME (an expert ability known to proctologists as the 'Twin Gusts') and tune the escaping flatulence, so it erupts in musical notes/keys which harmonize. Astounding talent. I believe the encore of his act was his rectal rendition of En Vogue's hit, "Never Gonna Get It". He recently completed a sell out tour in which he concentrated solely on hits by Simon and Garfunkel. This was all at outdoor locations of course, as even venues boasting the most up to date and sophisticated of ventilation systems, cannot fully expel the appalling odour which attacks the audience after a few minutes. Complimentary nose plugs, nasal masks and other olfactory inhibitors have all been tried and tested to combat this issue, all to no avail. This may however, be a blessing in disguise for Mr. Methane. If he were to increase his performance rate by appearing in standard arenas to thousands of fans, he runs the risk of rectal collapse. The expulsion of gas via one's anus is a vital bodily function.... the manipulation of that function could have dire repercussions in the long run. This was brought to Mr. Methane's attention most brutally back in 2012, whilst he was performing in Hyde Park to hundreds of delighted fans. During a particularly up-tempo performance of 'Funky Town' by Lips Inc, he inadvertently defecated with alarming ferocity. This accident not only soiled his costume, but it prevented any further musicality being strained through his anal passage leaving the congregated masses extremely disappointed.
