In 1978 on Radio 1, John Peel famously plays Teenage Kicks twice in a row.
This video is a tribute to the man who was responsible for my life long passion for music and to the band who I have loved more than any other.

Stan we will never forget what John Peel did for the people of Northern Ireland. He didn't care for the silly crap that we did for years. He just cared about the people & the music we had to give. Keep it Peel

THIS is one of the most magnificent moment's in Irish Music history And as my father put it "hearing it for the first time was a revelation, It was as if for 2 whole minutes all the hatred within us died and together we were unified in youth" Nice one da. The greatest ever DJ plays the greatest ever single. Twice. Learnt so much about music from this man, in particular how to develop eclectic taste. Many, many happy memories of his show. Wish they'd repeat them.

I live in America and I surprisingly heard this song at a local gas (petrol) station yesterday. I was probably the only one there who knew the song and I'm only 21. It's simple and melodic and that's why it's so legendary.

I met an English man at a Pogues concert, Melbourne, (2012?) who had seen all the famous punk and post-punk bands in their beginnings and he said that of all the amazing bands he saw, the best show of all was by the Undertones.

John Peel sessions. Mon-Thur. 1977-78. I hardly missed them listening on my little Tranny. Then when I got my Cassette Radio, I used to tape them. Still got a few knocking about. John Peel was like my friend. He played punk when no one else did. I wasn't alone. He never patronised and recognised the special in all the stuff he played. John Peel: legend.

whoosh back 40 years - forgot about this memory - how it really sounded late at night, lights out, recording it on a cheap little radiocassette, before I ever had the record.

This guy is, and forever will be a legend to me. I remember hearing his distinctive voice while i attempted to edit out the gaps between songs on radio 1's top of the pops. rewinding and pausing the c90 tape as I tried to hit the record button just before the DJ cut into the end of the song. sweet childhood memories

At the time who would ever thought you'd get to hear this again after 35 years!! I was in London for the very first time listening with a friend and, well, I ran to Rough Trade the next day and it's still my favorite to this day! Thanks!

Reading your post, has reminded me it is almost ten years since the inimitable John Peel left us. He is still sadly missed. My most vivid memories of him are of his 'Top Gear' show on Radio 1 in the late 1960s - early 1970s, but I am well aware that he was in the forefront of radical new music for almost forty years. He introduced me to so much music I would never even have heard about, let alone heard. And he performed the same service for later generations too.
