I worked in Iraq. There are still depleted uranium no-go areas there. Children are still being born in Southern Iraq with consequential birth defects. Depleted uranium was used by NATO against Serbia in 1999 leading a consequential up-tick in cancers. US / NATO / UK use of depleted uranium weapons amounts to war crimes - but it will never be reported as such in the West. But truth will out. Vengeance and retribution require a long time; it is the rule.

@Carlo Slats Do you really know what depleted uranium is? Natural uranium is made up of primarily two isotopes. U-238 which comprises around 97% and U-235 which comprises around 3%. Depleted uranium is over 99% of U-238. It is what's left over after most of the U-235 has been removed. U-235 is fissile when it captures low energy neutrons. It is used in nuclear reactors. U-238 will split if it captures high energy neutrons or if it captures a low energy neutron, it will be converted to plutonium-239 which is also fissile with low energy neutrons. Uranium has low energy radioactivity. It gives off alpha particles as it slowly converts to lead. Outside of the body, those alpha particles are not deadly. They are stopped by the outer layer of dead skin cells. However, when it is inhaled, it is extremely deadly. Nothing in nature is as ionizing as an alpha particle. That particle can pull electrons off of fluorine. It is nothing to scoff at. Inside of the body, uranium is deadly. When the stuff is heated up it turns to dust. The dust gets widely distributed. There is NO reason to use depleted uranium. Tungsten rounds cost more than does depleted uranium. But unlike uranium, tungsten is not radioactive. Western Ukraine is now radioactive with uranium dust after that explosion. All due to the UK government. Some of the greatest soil in the world is now contaminated. And you are likely highly unethical saying depleted uranium is not dangerous.
@DreamteamCarlo
@DreamteamCarlo Жыл бұрын
@@davidharris2147 Thank you for your detailed answer. You are clearly very knowledgeable on this topic, but I think you misinterpreted my comment or I didn't make myself clear. I think it is evil and also stupid to send any kind of nuclear weapons, depleted or not. It was specifically the 'wide and far' part of the original comment I was responding to. Please allow me to ask you more specifically: Is the range in both time and space in which health risks of many kinds can be experienced, significantly lower for let's say 10 depleted uranium shells as opposed to let's say 1 Hiroshima sized nuke? My simple mind thinks that with a smaller explosion, smaller quantity of uranium, no mushroom cloud type effects instantly distributing dust over large distances, etc. the nuclear materials and terrible effects would remain more localised. Just thinking basic math here, Smaller Quantity = Smaller Footprint. If I am wrong about this, I would appreciate it if you can take the time to elaborate on the why and how. In layman's terms please... ;)

Dr Douglas Rokke, a former US Army nuclear health physicist and was formerly the Pentagon's health expert on DU, wrote the book on how to clean it up. He spoke out its use, came to Australia in 2003 warning how radioactive it is. He was dying of cancer himself. He showed us photos of DU having blown up tanks, everything covered in white powder which was radioactive, with the dead looking like white cripsy critters. His team also ended up sick and dying. He was able to measure dangerous levels of radioactivity. I even vudeoed his talk. He didnt expect to be allowed out of the USA after his visit. He had a conscience... was trying to get the word out about the harm this would cause the people, as well as soldiers. Kids, ppl, soldiers climbed over them to get photos, selfies, not expecting the USA would have been so immoral and inhuman left the country poisoned and radioactive.... wven poison its own. The title should be from Yugoslavia to Ukraine. The Ukraine situation just got complicated, a few days ago an ammo storage was blown up and apparently it housed DU ammo, radiation levels in the are have gone up. The cause of the issue is simple: money. DU penetrators are cheaper than Tungsten ones and it provides a convenient way to "recycle" used up Uranium. Russia did have DU ammo but they phased out to Tungsten after Yugoslavia and Iraq. Their whole military doctrine is oriented towards wars on their borders and it makes no sense to poison your own neighbourhood.

Radiation aside the ICC article 8(2)(e)(xvii) lists the use of poisonous weapons as a war crime, Uranium is poisonous, Maybe the ICC should issue a warrant for Ben Wallace? Russia produced DU ammunition for it's tanks but has a moratorium on its use. The Challenger 3 tank and all smoothbore tank guns can fire DU rounds.
@jamesglass4842
@jamesglass4842 Жыл бұрын
The Challenger 2 and the Challenger 1 and Chieftain before them use three piece ammo, projectile, bag charge and a large brass filled igniter..forget the proper name. Because its separate projectiles and bag charge the British Heavy armour can’t fit the long rod kinetic ammunition made from Tungsten Carbide. Even though the older tanks used APDS Tungsten carbide rounds. Seemingly the long penetrators have better armour defeating properties. Sadly the DU is poisonous I know people who worked with it at A Magnox Atomic Power Station. The Political elite just lie all the time.

Probably should say that Challenger 2 tanks require a DU sabot round of special design as the rifling would otherwise give the fin stabilised darts detrimental spin, smooth bore guns are designed to use finned rounds

In the mid 90’s I was working as a Freelance Broadcast Television Engineer for a short while for tv company in Battersea, London, UK. I worked alongside an Iraqi engineer, whose parents ran a children’s hospital in Baghdad. He told me how they struggled to care for sick children under the sanctions imposed by the west, and of the growing numbers of children they were caring for who were born with physical abnormalities from birth. He also said that the date palms along the Euphrates River were baring misshapen flowers and fruits post the 1990 invasion.

The dust inside a tank firing U rounds is as dangerous as the dust from a disintegrated / impacted round ar any target. I think most of the Brit soldiers from Iraq were tankers. The us used it mostly in A10 'warthog' which I assume causes less exposure to pilots than when fired from US or UK tanks ...i assume the dust from firing inside tanks is impossible to get rid of....b note Its an assumption With regard to the locations - again the US fired from planes at 'targets of opportunity' ie willy nilly - the UK know precisely where the chieftains were. It used to be said that the Cambodia bombing campaign was planned specifically to use old bomb stock up so that the Pentagon could justify ordering brand new shiny bombs and kit - _ - thus it is highly likely that Britain will be happy to dump 'ancient' U rounds before expiry dates or legislation banning the use of DU rounds
