"When all them nurses say, 'grandpa, why you walk that way?' Just blame it on that old crazy bone." It's about his crazy bone. About his, you know, bone.

Never got to see John play this live because he passed away before his twice re-arranged London gigs. I miss you John, thank you for the wonderful gigs I was able to get to.

Sometimes it's enough for me to just sit and soak it up. Nothing too profound. Just sweet fun , John Prine at his best always leaves me with a smile.

I've learned so much rural slang and history from John Prine. Sam Stone taught me "Little Pitchers Have Big ears" (watch what you say around kids etc) and this song taught me about Egg and Daughter night. I've never been on the Green River, but after listening to Paradise a few times, I'm right there with him shooting at empty pop bottles at the abandoned old prison etc... Can't believe we are in a Prine-less world. It's a gut punch to this day.

That was a great way to start the morning. John Prine puts a smile on my face almost every time I hear him. Some of his songs are too sad for that. We saw Marty Stuart in person many years ago when he was a hot item. Now he is revered as a country music historian.

I’ve been a Prine fan for decades! I turned my brother onto him ( I truly feel like we’re all in a very special club ) We were from Norfolk. I’m the only one that lives in Lincoln now, but I just had to message you. I love this small world sooo much!!

First of all RIP to John Prine One of the many country music legends that we lost this past year OK first of all thanks to keep it spicy for the recommendation of the song and then of course Don thank you for doing a song you do not know how much of a big grin listening to this song Love the lyrics in the song I also love the backstory into how the song was developed that happened in the very beginning of this video as a proud Nebraskan trust me when I say this this song had me feeling very prideful about my home state of Nebraska that it was a basis for a country song and that it was written and sung by a country music legend makes it even better then what it could already be Dishley this is the second time that the city of Lincoln Nebraska has gone a shout out in a country song this one here and also in the Zac Brown Band song colder weather when he mentions he is at a truckstop just outside of Lincoln that was a reference to Lincoln Nebraska do you know how I am real proud that the city of Lincoln Nebraska our state capital as well as got a couple shout out would be nice if some of the cities in the western part of Nebraska was get some love and some country songs as well just asking in deep respect for the western parts Eastate get some love as wells well and also I remembered that the city of Omaha Nebraska shut out in the Charlie Daniels song of a easy Rider lastly a song recommendation as well kind of a pretty good expression of the western part of the state of Nebraska because it also applies to the state of Wyoming would be Ned Ledoux’s song titled Some People do

If you weren't trying to quickly memorize the lyrics as he was singing so next time, you'd be able to sing along...you might be a dork. But seriously, the whole album is a masterpiece as Mr. Prine takes on his own mortality with a heavy dash of humor. "If I can make myself laugh about something that I should be crying about, that's pretty good. " --- John Prine

@David Emswiler My friend in Nebraska who I gave a shoutout to at about the 3-minute mark gave me an hilarious and detailed account of the Egg & Daughter night. I sent him the link to the video and here's what he said: "Ok, so egg and daughter night was a real thing. It started in O'Neill, NE (20 miles from where I live). On Thursdays they had a farmers market so to speak, and all the farmers/ranchers brought eggs, cream, produce and whatever to town, as well as the entire family. The men would do the market stuff, women would shop for needed stuff at the stores and the kids would all hang out at a roller rink or park or some place that had room for all of them. As time went on and farmers' weekly markets shrank with modern times the trip to town didn't stop. It got to where the men would go to the tavern and play/listen to music and the women and kids did the usual stuff. Over time and with rural people getting vehicles for their kids and just everything evolving, it got to where just the younger generation would go. Also most of them would be single. Gaylen's Bar was the first to capitalize on the Thursday night people by having live music. The real old folks have always called it Egg & Daughter Night, but my generation calls it Fat & Ugly Night. It was a play on the farmers bringing their produce (fat farm girls) to town to try to get them hooked up with a "city" kid. It basically turned into an event for everyone on Thursday nights just to go out. It has faded away in the last 15-20 years but was a lot of fun from the 50's-90's."

C'mon, let's be candid here, "crazy bone" is a euphemism. Lol. Talkin about picking up girls at the roller rink and when their farmer dads catch ya "blame it on that old crazy bone." Also "if they knew what you were thinkin, they'd have run you outta Lincoln." That's my takeaway atleast. I mean hell, Iron Ore Betty is probably the most suggestive song of John's, so it wouldn't be a surprise if that's the meaning of Crazy Bone. Lol.

Thanks for this, I really love anything John sang and especially from "Diamonds In The Rough", could you please react to "The Torch Singers Song" or "The Great Compromise" from that album, they are both fabulous songs.
