For this list, I am limiting it to 2 songs per artist, and only 1 version of each song is permitted (since several of his hits were covered by countless others).

People who say "less is more" generally don't know how to control more instruments or voices when they have more. Steinman was a master at it. He had the mind of a great composer working in the modern world of music. I didn't expect to be this sad today...

Understand the limitation to 2 songs per artist. Hurts the list though. 10. Holding Out for a Hero 9. Bat Outta Hell 8. No Where Fast 7. Its All Coming Back to Me 6. Total Eclipse of the Heart 5. Paradise by the Dashboard Light 4. Took the Words Right Outta my Mouth 3. Tonight is What it Means to be Young 2. Two Outta Three Aint Bad 1. Objects in the Rearview Mirror - IMO, one of the greatest songs ever written.

Saw Air Supply I. Concert , love Making Love Out of Nothing at all, also have the Bat Out of Hell trilogy on cd, Jim Steinman was an amazing song writer from Air Supply to Celine Dion to Bonnie Tyler and Meatloaf, music creations will be missed. RIP Jim Steinman

This list surprised the shit out of me. Such a thoughtful list too. I was thinking #1 was Bat Out of Hell (Meat Loaf). Nope. It was a song that honestly deserve to be #1. Excellent list, Brother. I love, FUCKING love Jim Steinman. I love his Fire Inc stuff to say the least.

What the hell? I've never even heard seven songs out of this 'top 10' list. No 'Heaven can Wait'? For Crying out Loud? Took the words right out of my mouth? Only one Meatloaf song and it's not even one of his best. What kind of top 10 list is this??

I get that they were showcasing jim s various chart toppers but 2-3 of these should've been left off and read em n weep and more meatloaf songs should be included

I agree that the list is limited because there is a max of 2 songs per artist, in reality, probably half of Steinman's best songs are Meatloaf songs. However, for 1, there ARE two Meatloaf songs listed and they are two of his best written Meatloaf songs, and secondly, this limitation was clearly spelled out before the list started.

He had so many fantastic songs that he wrote that ran under the radar of his bigger one off hits for some artists. Always amazed me how songs he recorded were not hits and later another artist would record it and have the huge chart topping hit. Well thought out top ten list. I'd have included something from the Streets Of Fire soundtrack and as an honorable mention noted that Meat Loaf sang the heck out of It's All Coming Back To Me Now. Oh well, opinions differ

My 10 favourite Jim Steinman songs in no particular order would be 1) Bat out of hell, 2) I'd do anything for love, 3) It's all coming back to me now, 4) Making love out of nothing at all, 5) Surf's up, 6) Objects in the rear view mirror, 7) Paradise by the Dashboard light, 8) Out of the frying pan and into the fire, 9) Seize the night, 10) Everything louder than everything else.

Tough picks since he was a genius who wrote so many great songs. Two songs from Streets Of Fire rank up there too: "Nowhere Fast" & "Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young" (this is Steinman's personal favorite and which he wrote in *TWO* days).

Please politely correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I've read "In the Dark of the Night" was composed by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and the album as prooduced by David Newman with Flaherty and Ahrens. Steinman is not listed as a producer on any songs on the soundtrack. And yes...where the hell is Bat Out of Hell...Paradise...Cryin out Loud...Holdin on For a Hero..and about 20 others....

Lynn Ahrens did write the song, Stephen Flaherty wrote the music, but David Newman was the score producer. He did not produce In The Dark of the Night or At The Beginning. Jim Steinman and Trevor Horn produced those respectively. Steinman is listed as producer in the soundtrack notes. I will agree with the 20 others, Steinman is one I should've done a bigger list for.

James Horner and Will Jennings did write the song, but it was Steinman who produced it, which is what made it eligible (So if I ever do a James Horner list, the song will be eligible there and probably will get mentioned as well).
