A beautiful English traditional featured in the TV series Sharpe.
Scenes from:
Sharpe's Eagles
Sharpe's Company
Sharpe's Enemys
Sharpe's Honour
Sharpe's Gold
Sharpe's Battle
Sharpe's Sword
Sharpe's Waterloo
Sorry for the too sharp overlapping at some points and the Sean Beans part being too quiet... maybe will fix them in the future :P

Maybe each actor only has a limited amount of plot shield to the characters they play. Sean Bean used all of it playing Sharpe.

@@dgerdi Boromir died my friend, and it weren't even a life well lived, not once did he shoot a Frenchie. Pitiful. You may come to the conclusion that Sharpe had a tad bit of plot armour, however, have you considered: British > French.

When he walked away from Spain...that was the most emotional ending for me. Sharpe had everything he never thought he could have: a family. I was a mess when he held his daughter for the last time. War wasn't the hardest thing for him to do. Giving up his family was 😢.

Over The Hills And Far Away ~ John Tams version: Written by:John Tams Here's forty shillings on the drum For those who'll volunteer to come To 'list and fight the foe today. Over the hills and far away. O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. Then fall in lads behind the drum, With colours blazing like the sun. Along the road to come-what may. Over the hills and far away. O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. When duty calls me, I must go To stand and face another foe. But part of me will always stray Over the hills and far away. O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. {Through smoke and fire, and shot and shell, and the very walls of hell, but we shall stand, and we shall stay, O'er the hills and far away} O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. {When evil stalks upon the land, I'll neither hold nor stay me hand, but fight to win a better day, O'er the hills and far away} O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. {Let Kings and Tyrants come and go, I'll stand adjudged by what I know, A soldier's life I'll ne'er gainsay, Over the hills and far away} O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. {Old Wellington he scratched his bum, He says "Boney lad, thee's had thee fun, My riflemen will win the day", Over the hills and far away} O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. {Though I may travel far from Spain, Part of me shall still remain, For you are with me night and day, Over the hills and far away} O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. If I should fall to rise no more, As many comrades did before, Then ask the fifes and drums to play. Over the hills and far away. O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. Over the hills and far away. O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. Over the hills and far away. O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Here's forty shillings on the drum For those who'll volunteer to come To 'list and fight the foe today. Over the hills and far away. O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away.(...fade out...)

It'd be nice to see something like that, but to be honest it's probably for the best that we didn't have a revival; at least not while the entertainment industry's like it is now. It'd be chock full of PC and social justice contrivances, and the overall quality would go to hell. Just look at all the franchises that have been given another chance, and how they're pale imitations of what came before. For someone to make something like this today, it'd take a lot more courage and integrity than most would be willing to give.

I'm lucky to have all 21 books in the Sharpe series and just reading them again after 10 years. Brings back memories of Sean Penn playing Sharpe in the excellent TV series. The British and French faced each other in battle about 70-100 metres apart. Any further and the musket balls flew anywhere. Those soldiers were brave men. The British could fire faster than the French and were aligned into lines so every soldier could shoot. The French attacked in massive columns with only a small proportion of soldiers able to shoot at the enemy.

If I remember correctly His mother died when he was still a pretty small child. Also you get the impression in the books he just doesn't care about who his parents were, he's got all the answers he'll ever need on the subject.

This was well done, i love this song, watching this series, seeing how brave those that formed lines to fire apon those that where so close, now days this does not happen, there is no longer any honor in war.

The series is a masterpiece of acting and writing. The ballad is superb although it's not the original 17th century lyrics. Yes it's a shame, we French have not the guts to say out loud that we had once a Hitler at the head of our Nation who has been responsible for the death of between 3.5 to 6.5 millions people( no one will ever know the real figure), soldiers, women, children, representing about 2.8 to 5.2% of the 152 millions inhabitants of the 5 European countries who have been invaded by this mad and criminal upstart,so called Emperor! I'm French by birth and I'm ashamed to see such a man worshipped in my country and put in the mausoleum of the Pantheon. He should have had no less treatment than the Nazis who were responsible for the Holocaust. Just imagine what would have happened if he had the weapons of the XXth century at his disposal. Some say he did good things like our Civil code , and others; yes he did them but he spent all his life not respecting those codes. No we should not be very proud......

Agreed and well done for saying this friend it takes a lot of courage to denounce a hero of your nation as a killer :). Respect.

Ants Holland It's not a question of courage; it's a question of just facing facts and also learning history. Talleyrand, Napoleon's minister, said in his memoirs with an incredible foresight, that France and Europe would one day pay the price of the Napoleonic wars and of the stupid congress of Vienna of 18th september 1814. If you cab read French (I don't think the book has been translated into English) read the excellent biography of Talleyrand by Jean Orieux; it is considered to be THE biography of this amazing and should I say versatile diplomat and minister.(we have a say in French which defines him very well " he eats from all the coconuts trees!).We've all paid the price: 1870 1914-1918 1939-1945 .

I do read french, I'll have a look at it. The again, a freedom fighter one nation is a murderer to another. Like to the Mongolian people Ghengis Khan is a hero but to the Chinese he is a butcher (which ultimately he was).

Thank you so much for this...loved it!! I would love to see a compilation of all the scenes from the show where Hagman sings. He was, by far, my favourite character in the show. I wish there had been just an episode or 2 where there had been a subplot that revolved around him.
