Agree, I'm still a kid of 72 and the Duke is still my hero. I would enjoy seeing In Harms Way today but now it's a pay to view. It's only been on network tv about a hundred times.

@John Caulfield Here's a bit of trivia I'll bet you didn't know, Ethan Wayne, John Wayne's youngest son, the one who played his grandson in Big Jake, was a stuntman in The Blues Brothers. Look at the credits at the end, under "stunts" you'll see John E Wayne, it was actually his middle name that was Ethan, but I guess since there was already a "John" around the house he grew up using his middle name. After his dad died in '79 his stuntman buddies got Ethan into the stunt business, he did stunt's in a few other movies and then got into the production end of movies I believe. Yea I'm a huge fan of his movies to, I was born in the 60's and raised in the 70's when he was still considered the biggest movie star in the world, that and having the name Duke I guess I didn't have much of a choice 😉😉😉

My father (MSG Joseph Morin) was one of 10 or 12 soldiers from Fort Bragg who was selected to appear in the Green Berets movie which was filmed at Fort Benning. I remember in 1968 going to a movie theater at Fort Bragg to watch it with the family for the first time. He had a speaking part in the movie, and I was so proud of him for that. The two weeks he was at Fort Benning for the filming, he told me John Wayne (The Duke) treated them like gold. Thanks Duke for treating my father so well, he remembered that the remaining 32 years of his life.

@@michaelm.6952 My dad met John Wayne when filming The Longest Day. My father's Battalion(82nd Airborne) was used in that film. He said Wayne acted like a regular guy and my dad was greatly impressed with him. I been a Wayne fan since a child. He was America. We could use a Wayne today in films.

Here's one for ya, Joseph Stalin was a huge fan of John Wayne movies, he had them all translated into Russian so he could privately watch them. He said it broke his heart that he had to put Wayne on a death list for being anti-communist. That's no joke, he actually had two assassins sent to America to kill him but they were intercepted by the FBI when they tried to enter the country.

Not just Westerns though. I believe it was 1951 when my Father was recalled to duty with the Marine Corps. Between fighting forest fires he was also an extra in the ground combat scenes in "Flying Leathernecks". After completing the filming the Duke threw a big BBQ for all the Marines in the film.

Here's my favorite John Wayne story, and it came from a Green Beret. He had already served two tours in Vietnam and was currently at Ft Benning training Special Forces, when news hit that John Wayne was coming to Ft Benning to film a movie about the Green Berets he said to himself "Great, that's the last thing I need is some military wannabe movie star coming around here thinking he's gonna make a movie about what I do, if I meet him I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind about him being in so many war movies and never actually having worn a uniform". Several weeks later he was sitting in his office when he heard a commotion in the hallway, upon stepping out into the hallway he found himself standing face to face with John Wayne who immediately stuck his hand out and said "Hello, I'm John Wayne", as if he needed an introduction (that's a quote from him), he said the only thing he could think to do at the moment was to stick his hand out and shake his and reply "Hello Mr Wayne, it's a pleasure to meet you sir" and turned around and walked right back into his office. At the end of the story he said "Anyone who ever thinks they'd tell John Wayne off never stood face to face with him"🤣🤣🤣.

Wayne should have gotten an Academy Award for The Quiet Man, but he didn't even get a nomination because the academy was miffed at him about being a part of The Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals and it's part in the blacklisting of actor's and writer's who were associated with the Communist Party.

And on the set of The Searchers no less, the greatest western ever!!! And here I was all proud of myself because I got my picture taken sitting in the actual Sanford and Son pickup truck last year, now I feel like a real loser, I'll never show that picture to anyone again 🤣🤣🤣

@@stevek8829 I don't know how you would prove it either way, but I've heard about Buddy and Jerry Allison getting the idea from The Searchers for many years. I also researched it a bit and interestingly, I can't find any realistic source that claims that it isn't true. Not one. In today's world, where you can find people who will deny that a ball is round, the lack of that kind of claim may be about as much proof as you can get. Google it, maybe you'll find something that I've missed.

Being a girl, I loved, loved, loved Patrick when he did the Marathon John commercials for a candy bar. Wish I could think of the candy bar. It was during the late 1970's, and he had the sexiest smile!😂😂
