There is so much to marvel at here... The music is great, the performances flawless, John williams, and of course, the TV production values. Evening at Pops is so far the most elegant effort I have ever seen applied to a symphony concert coverage. This is one thing the Americans are definitely good at.

I play horn in the brass choir at Mcneese university in Louisiana, and we have been working up this arrangement. The horn parts are for the most part easy to get up to full speed (and like any Williams piece, TONS OF FUN!), but these trumpets make it look and sound WAY easier than it really is. So happy to finally find a movie-speed recording of this, and with Williams conducting!

While listening to his music being played in front of him, do you think he knows he's a genius?

To Brainbran1: While it is true that none of these horns are 8Ds, Mackey did play an 8D for years before he won the 4th horn gig at BSO.

to RWB SMITH below. There are no Conn 8ds here. These are all Geyer wrap style horns. not even close to an 8Duh.

He's not short! he has a trick knee, and hates standing. if you notice, he is sitting on a stool, and has his left leg on a box. He is a very private person and you here him in all movie sound tracks, and just about on every major recordings, his identity is a secret, plays a cut bell 8d he picked from fifty horns back in 75

....featuring the 11 members of the brass section, not 9 french horns. 4 french horns 3 trumpets 3 trumbones 1 tuba
