At the time I saw this fil in the late 80's on video. I hadn't caught who did the score on the credits. When I heard the music though, I thought "is that John Williams"? Then I looked at the credits and thought "wow". This is one of the best scores ever for a western and it reminds me of some of the great music guys like Dimitri Tiomkin did for John Ford a Generation earlier. Perfect score for one of the last great films of the legendary John Wayne. Wayne and Williams both broke the mold.
@jimslancio4 жыл бұрын
Tiomkin was asked once how he, as a Russian, had such a feel for Westerns. His reply: "a steppe is a steppe."

I agree, whenever I hear the overture of the Cowboys, I immediately think of John Williams they go hand-in-hand. When I first saw the Cowboys, when it first came out, I was 12 years old, and when I heard the first time the overture I was captured I never heard such and I love the way the music had its up and down and changing tempo. And for every change of tempo you remember the temple that went along for the scene of the movie especially when it came to Bruce Dern’s part. You knew right then and there that the scene was changing and so is the mood in the atmosphere. Only John Williams can do that.

@@davidanthony4845 No, the Classical period ended around 1800, gradually replaced by the Romantic period, that lasted as long as Rachmaninov lived, well into the 20th Century.

Wonderful, derivative of Aaron Copland but typical Williams energy and passion. This guy is a true genius, not only for the music itself but his ability to dramatically enhance any film he composes for. This is the best music written for a Duke Wayne movie, and captures his cinematic spirit with near perfection! Love this music!

@Martyprod26 жыл бұрын
what do you mean ?
@Chicxulub65M6 жыл бұрын
That was a little harsh. The production crew didn't know the score. You have to know who is playing what to have the camera on whoever is doing the solo work. In other words, you don't show violas doing their little off beat accompaniment during other instruments' solos. It just makes for a lot of missed opportunities. They did better on some other videos where they followed the soloists around the orchestra. They did a much better job on Summon The heroes conducted by John Williams.
@Martyprod26 жыл бұрын
Hoo of course they don't :( ... it's unfortunatly always like that in the majority of concert, any of them.
