A master artist - one of my favorite players who I was lucky to see and meet at a very small venue when I was about 10 years old back in the UK. This version of Canarios is a little brief for my liking though.

Simply the best. This rendition from John Williams is the best I've heard among other guitarists who played it. BTW, I just finished learning this piece with the help of TabToolkit on my iPod touch. John Williams is the best classical guitarist on earth - in my opinion.

Not slow. Appropriate dance tempo - while I agree it can be fun to play this as fast as you can...the "dance" bit of it goes out the window. I appreciate his casual tempo, and yea, he's reading on this. Probably didn't spend all evening fretting about what all we would be saying on KZfaq! Anyhow, so glad this was posted. Thanks!

Oh, back when his guitar SOUNDED like a GUITAR! The Smallman he plays today -to my personal preference- is just loud but dead. I love the sound of traditional spanish construction classical guitars. The sound so...alive and with so many colors. Especially when played by someone like John Williams.

Strange. How come the recording is poor quality but the sound of the guitar is great? The guitar, the player or both? I think he put it in drop D tuning to pick up the extra resonance and I think he picked the 6th string once towards the end.
@ZalMoxis8 жыл бұрын
+steve gartshore His guitar sound is like crystal... that's why it cuts through I reckon.... a dodgy recording otherwise....
@cptnoremac6 жыл бұрын
He plays the low D twice at the end and I love it. As for your question, I guess they just had better audio recording equipment than video recording.
@manny755865 жыл бұрын
The original was written for the old school 5 string baroque guitar. When the 6 string became more standard, it became fairly common to double the A or D to punch up some parts. In practical fact it's "wrong" to play anything open on the lowest string since it didn't exist at the time of composition. I think the modern arrangements do it justice though.

@Maxim's Guitar Workshop 'Check out this guitar version of the song'. As against what, John Williams' version above on the Ukulele?
@chocolatedonut319 жыл бұрын
This piece wasn't written for the guitar as you know it, actually. The baroque guitar, while still a 'guitar' I suppose, is really a separate instrument. It's quite impressive that Williams managed to pull it off on the standard classical guitar. Look up "Regina Albanez plays baroque guitar" to see the original instrumentation of this tune.
