I tackled the compound slide first and had to revisit it after it was all put back together.

Hello John, Good progress on the Lorch... as Daniel commented below it would be very useful to see some footage of you scraping on this project or any other if you have it. I am off to watch part 3 now... Take care. Paul,,

I did ponder about putting up some video of me scraping, but I am very much an amateur. I have had no training and I was a bit concerned that others would belittle my efforts. I use a scraper with a modified tip with a more rounded profile than comes with the factory tips. I have found that working in a cross hatch pattern works best for me going in alternate directions. This is not easy on small surfaces like the top slide as getting the tool into the inside of the dovetail is not easy. I found if you cut in one direction only then you tend to get 'furrows' develop and also the tool can leave chatter marks. I have a Biax scraper but I just find it too heavy and is very difficult to control how deep it goes. I guess that it is just practice. I finish off the scraping with a much less rounded tip and that can leave a a really nice flat surface. If I am really flat I can feel the scraped surface sucking on to the blue. On the old Sloan and Chace lathe I have, the scraping is magnificent. It is very flat and smooth it just looks like a polished piece of Opal. Thankfully it is almost unused since it was made. The Lorch is crude in comparison with no signs anywhere of scraping. I will give some thought to making up an extra video with more info about scraping. The key with the scraping is to be able to get a printing off to check for high spots and measuring how much you are out of true. Not easy when you do not have all the tools. John

Excellent work you're doing on the Lorch. Have you shown any scraping footage in your previous videos? (would love to see your setup and overall approach)
