You're the first person I've seen that has actually addressed the fact that driving pocket screws shifts the alignment. Not only did you say that it happens, you showed you're solution. Minor, I know, but thorough... Thank you.

Nicely done. Fully captured drawer bottoms makes sense. 1/2" plywood with a 1/4" rabbit utilizes most of the (otherwise wasted) bottom space and makes them really strong.

I really love your building process John, it seems quite formulaic, lots of similarities in the construction of your furniture. I say that as a compliment as it helps others getting started in woodworking to not feel overwhelmed by overly complicated builds. Once one has made , for example, the blanket box, one now has the skills & experience to tackle something more impressive like the chest of drawers or the bed you made. Subbed a while back now & always look forward to your videos.. 🤗 From the Emerald Isle 😎👍☘️🍺

I also made the drawer boxes with half inch plywood using the quarter quarter quarter method but plan on using the drawer lock bit when I get to the dressers (chest of drawers). The wife corrected me that dressers are wide and chest of drawers are tall.🤔 I did look that up and she was right, dang it! 🤷🏻‍♂️

The real wood filler bondo has real wood fibers in it so it sands and stains much much better and matches the real wood around it much better it’s really for when you need to fill something that’s going to be stained and clear coated and needs to blend in and match exactly for anything that’s being painted the old school regular bondo is the way to go it’s much cheaper and dries super quick and is easy to work with I have been using both for years and it’s worth it to keep both in the shop just try it out when you do you will never use any wood filler from the big box stores or hardware stores ever again the bondo bondo wood filler and & Minwax high performance wood filler which is just bondo with real wood fiber also is the best things to use on wood period

Off my head I’d roughly guess 250

How do you get the measurements for where your drawer slides will be mounted in the box? Are each of the drawers unique once you put the fronts on? Meaning can they go in any order if removed or should they be placed back in the original order top to bottom?
@JohnBuildsIt
@JohnBuildsIt 3 жыл бұрын
I just measure it out man not sure how else to really describe it haha. Now that I’m making plans I do it and evenly space them on the computer. I do label the back of the drawers so they always go in the same spot but technically it shouldn’t matter and they’re all the same

Love the videos! I just found your channel and watched a lot of them back to back haha. I just wondered where you ordered your white insert for your table saw? If you could let me know that would be awesome thanks!

Forgive me for my ignorance, I'm still learning. But why do you notch the ends of the sides and bottom panels to join them. Why not pocket hole screw them like the drawers? And again, this is a genuine question. Is the notched joint stronger? Then if so, why not notch the drawers as well?
@JohnBuildsIt
@JohnBuildsIt 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure completely what you’re referring to. I think you’re talking about the rabbet it cut in the sides and bottom. That’s for the back panel to sit inside flush, as opposed to being able to see the plywood edge from the side. The joinery here is simply screws since they’re covered by the trim anyway. Hope that helps!

@@JohnBuildsIt yes Sir, thats what I'm referring to. I'm just wondering, why not use pocket holes to join those pieces just like you do with the drawers? I would like to be able to build one of these, but I'd like to know which joint would be strongest.
@JohnBuildsIt
@JohnBuildsIt 2 жыл бұрын
I’m confused haha pocket holes to attach the back panel? It’s only 1/4” thick so that’s not possible. Pocket screws to join the main carcass is simply just unnecessary and an added step and you’d see them on the inside.
@dstamey329

@@JohnBuildsIt haha I'm sorry! But yes, joining the main carcass (the side pieces to the bottom piece). And that answers my question, pocket holes would be unnecessary! Ok perfect! Thank you! I appreciate the videos!

What kind of plywood do you use for your white furniture? Is this from Menards? Do you find that paints well?

Do you have a router table? That leg detail might be a lot easier on a router table using a miter gage. Also, how do you get the inside offset of the faceframes exactly right so that those (I'm assuming 3/4"?) poplar spacers are perfectly flush when installing the drawer slides? I've tried doing that before and it's a huge pain in the ass, I end up having to go back and plane down or shim out the spacers to get them to align.
@JohnBuildsIt
@JohnBuildsIt 3 жыл бұрын
For sure, but none of my miter gauges work on my table. I don’t really have any secrets on that man haha sorry, just math and measuring precise. They’re 1/2” here, but yea on some projects with odd sizes I just run em through the planer to get the thickness I need

do you have an estimate on how much each dresser cost? going with todays wood prices.
@JohnBuildsIt
@JohnBuildsIt 3 жыл бұрын
I buy slides, hardware, primer/paint, stuff like that in larger quantities for multiple projects so kind of hard to equate that part, but just for the wood and trim about $250. Definitely more than usual haha but not a deal breaker

Those look extremely high end and you make it look like nothing to it. If you weren’t to use legs how would you prop it up? Cabinet base type bottom?

Thank you! Could just set it right on the floor without legs, or yea build an apron style box under it and maybe cut a curve or something in the front👍🏽
