Johnnie and the rest of the emo youtubers really made it seem like emo was going strong still when they first started. Now it feels like emo never left anytime you look at their content. I am def jealous of Johnnie’s looks and the fact that he’s surrounded by other emo/alt people, but I also know he’s a good person and deserves the best🖤

About ten years ago I met an emo guy. He seemed some kind of depressed. We became friends and he showed me so much cool music. We have been on countless concerts. As he organized concerts and I am a hobby guitarist, we spent a lot of time in the music scene. I am much older than him, I have a very well payed job - so we were different, but matched so well. After some time, the scene people called us "Andi & Andi".And over time - even if I tried to avoid it - I was falling in love with him. I had the greatest time in my life and it seemed he too. In my youth, I could not be like I was - gay. I felt lost, not worth to be here. And with Andi it was like, wow - here it is, the life I never thougt, I could have. Andi, the emo was the most wonderful human being, I ever met in my life. But some day, he told me, he wants to live with a girl and have a family. I never felt a pain like this, but - of course - I had to accept it and at the end, I wanted him to have the best possible life. He has his family and I wish them so much all the best. I am alone again. Thinking of him and looking at all these pictures on where we are together still brings me to tears. Why am I writing all this? Maybe because I learned to love the "emo style". Maybe, because the music often is exactly what I feel. I am a huge muscular gay, but I feel weak without "my" cookie monster. Keep the "emo thing" rolling - I love it so much. Sorry for my bad english - I am a german.

He's a year younger than me, and I got into my emo phase about 2010; it was still super alive and strong. I was huge into the early 00s emo material, but enjoyed the crunkcore emo stuff towards 2012-2013ish before I got into EDM. I get the idea of feeling like he missed the big wave of emo but it was still in a good spot until about 2014.

I usally feel bad when someone’s life falls apart. We’re all human. We are all met to make mistakes. Everyone’s got this idea we’re not suppose to fuck up or be perfect. If we showed more forgiveness & compassion people would be having a lot less mental issues. Or not bury shit deep down. People are miserable tho. Talking down on someone makes them feel better about their lives

I feel like the alternative music scene had a unique set of circumstances that made it seem extraordinarily predatory. It was popular with teen girls (ripe for manipulation), rock as a genre has always had groupies, and I'm sure there were also girls lying about their age for the clout of getting with the band. But for the ones that were honest victims, it was a weird time where social media was budding and people felt closer to bands but you were able to call them out very publicly, which I don't think many other genres at the time or in the past were able to do. Like if you were SA'd by a musician in the 80s, what did you do, y'know? But in the 00s/10s, you posted online and found others that had been through the same and then suddenly we all knew what a creep so-and-so was.

It's not that Emo is a phase, it's the fact that bands, mostly Punk Rock hate being labeled terms they don't associate themselves with. So, it's kinda bullshit on a terminology level of music.
