I saw Johnny it was either 74 or 75 in Memphis at the Auditorium North Hall . I was so buzzed on Columbian weed I can only remember the one song Snortin Whiskey Drinkin Cocaine it took four hours after the concert was over for my hearing to come back.

Part of the70's. Other than some really good music that came out in the 60's and 70's... the 'happiness' was 'spotty' for sure. The great parts of it were truly great, in fact, glorious, but the bad parts truly sucked really hard.

Totally agree. I saw Edgar in 1972 in baltimore in the basement of loyola college. Still ranks as one of the best live performances I ever saw.

Texas has had an amazingly rich musical culture with its own "sound" as well as a diversity of sounds. I love to listen to T-Bone Walker, Buddy Holly, Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughn, Freddy Fender...all Texas born.

@Anita Paulus, I have the issue of Cream Magazine from January 1970 that interview with Hendrix came out in. You have the right quote but the wrong guitarist. When Jimi was asked that question he said "I don't know, you'll have to ask Alvin Lee of Ten Years After, not Johnny Winter. The reason why Jimi said that to the reporter, he says candidly in the interview, was because they were discussing the 69' Woodstock Festival which had just happened 4 or 5 months earlier, and Hendrix said quote, and I'm taking this straight from the magazine right now, "I thought I played a good set at Woodstock considering it was my first time playing live with most of the musicians I played with there(save drummer Mitch Mitchell). Hendrix went on to say, "I thought Carlos Santana's guitar sounded great and I thought Johnny Winter's guitar was really strong too. But of the 3+ days of music that was played there, NOBODY outplayed Alvin Lee, and I mean nobody." "Alvin put on a guitar clinic for the ages during Ten Years After's set." You forgot percussionist with Edgar. Check out live Frankenstein. As you may know Edgar was the FIRST musician to take a keyboard and put guitar straps on it and hang it around his neck and play up front! Fkg genius.✌️

I am with you, I love Johnny. Edgar is fine, especially They Only Come Out at Night and the follow-up Shock Treatment and then I lost interest but Johnny was killing it from his debut until his final a few years back just before his passing. I especially love the Johnny Winter And period with Rick Derringer (actually it was Johnny and the McCoys). Derringer contributed to both brothers as band member, song writer and producer too, I believe.

To bad your loss of never knowing about Johnny or Edger Winter. I think people into music need to seriously start experiencing the music from when the Beatles first came to America in 1964 up to around 1978 or so. There is such an enormous amount of spectacular music from that period that needs to be listened to. So many bands, new bands, reshuffled bands, solo artists, studio recordings, live performances and supergroups. So much music you didn't know you loved. I'm sure there is a listing of all the bands that existed during that period somewhere on the internet, search it out. For instance many may of heard of groups like Fleetwood Mac, but how many younger people know of the original Fleetwood Mac band with guitar great Peter Green. Or some may have heard of Peter Frampton but not the awesome band he came from- Humble Pie, or Joe Walsh of the Eagles who was the guitarist in the James Gang. And so many others. Or just groups unknown to the generation of today, like - The Kinks, Hollies, Animals, Zombies, The Rascals, Bluesbreakers, Three Dog Night, MC5, Faces, Savoy Brown, Mad Dogs and Englishman, Blue Cheer, The Byrds and sooooo many others. All have something great to offer !!! It will be a worthwhile endeavor to sort through them all. And I envy all those hearing them for the first time. AWESOME !!!
