Legendary musician Johnny Cash lived in Dyess, Arkansas from 1935 to 1950 in a farmhouse with his family. The boyhood home is available for tours (through appointment only), thanks to restoration efforts over the years, mostly because to Cash's surviving siblings. Arkansas State University runs the property, as well as the museum inside the old theater.
First I take you inside the theater, administrative building, the site of Johnny Cash's high school (where he graduated in 1950) and finally, the boyhood home. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to take videos or flash photography inside some of those places. But I hope this gives you a look at what to expect when you stop in Dyess.
Highly recommended to any music lover and fan, whether or not you are familiar with the Man in Black.

The parking lot that held an annual “no name” music festival is called the Johnny Cash Heritage Festival. My wife is a former Interim Assistant Director for the site and the related Southern Tenant Farmer site. We also have a poster from the first Festival that was held in the parking lot. Just an FYI about the actual name of the Festival.

Neat rounded-out video. I can understand anyone not wanting to appear on camera, but I don't quite get why a place would say you can take pictures but not video. The only good reason I can possibly think of is they don't want to have to be quiet to avoid being heard in the background. Otherwise, just let us film it! It's better! Let us advertise/document your venue! C'est la vie!

The main reason was because the house and visitors center are owned by the university. But I agree, but at the same time I respect those wishes. I did indeed film inside briefly but the lady in charge told me not to. Cold. This was the 2nd or 3rd time I was told to put my videocam away. Some people who have filmed the inside of museums & such here on KZfaq may have taken away money and business to some. Never been proven but what the heck do I know...
