Mother Maybelle gifted my mother a pair of her earrings back when my mother had a television show in Cincinnati. She said Mother Maybelle was the most genuinely sweet woman she'd ever met, and my mother was not afraid to criticize people, so Ms. Carter must have been a top-notch person.

@@andrewdressler6173 I wasn't lying. If you go on Amazon and look for the book "Images of America: Cincinnati Television," you will see my mother listed as Ramona Burnette (née Watkins; Burnette was her first husband's last name) on pages 56 and 109. My father, "Bud Chase" (actual name Arthur Erwin Churvis) is on pages 77, 83, 109, and 116. I wish it had some pictures from my mother's show; it had some from my father's shows. I talked with the author, Jim Friedman, about ten years ago and we had a great talk. He didn't know that Bud and Ramona had married after WCPO, so we had a lot to talk about. Would you care to take back your accusation, and perhaps apologize?

@@andrewdressler6173 I wrote a long reply that KZfaq deleted for some strange reason (no insults, no bad language -- it might have been the link I included). So you were ingenuine when you apologized to me? I am telling the absolute truth, sir. Go to my father's Find A Grave page, where you'll notice all the memorial messages from fans, etc, even though it was back in the fifties. On findagrave, search for Arthur Erwin Churvis. You will see that someone posted an image of an old newspaper ad for one of his shows, and you will see my mother Ramona's link, too. Two of his shows are mentioned on the back outside cover of the book I mentioned to you earlier. Is **THIS** enough to prove that I am not lying to you?

@@trishpeterson9043 yes they were! Anita had one of the greatest voices country ever had. And about today artists.. Well, I'm very young (17) so I get to know a lot of modern music and even though a lot of it it's very disappointing I'd highly suggest you to search something from John Mayer, his album Born and Raised takes a lot from classic folk and I think it's great, he also does a similiar thing with his album Paradise Valley (if you have time check out this song kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r7yigNSn2pjDlnk.html )

Mother Maybelle and June are my pilots! If you play guitar and have not learned to play "The Wildwood Flower", you have at least one more pleasurable task in life! It's not a difficult piece of picking. Alas, the lyrics always escape, but it is one song that MUST be sung by a woman. I tried to rewrite the lyric for a male but failed miserably. After many years, I found a woman who could and would sing it on stage, while I played the guitar. It was wonderful. I was smiling like a fool through the entire song. I always wanted to play The Wildwood Flower for a live audience. When I finally did this, I felt I could die happy. God Bless The Carter Family!
@calebbasile2219
@calebbasile2219 Ай бұрын
I’m learning it right now, not difficult at all, but so fun to play. It is a little tricky, I wish I would’ve learned it as a beginner. I have the first part of the song down. I had to put my daughter to bed so I’ll practice the rest later. I agree, it only makes sense if a woman sings it, Johnny Cash did his version, with Maybelle of course, which was changed for a man, but it’s a totally different melody only until the wildwood flower line. So it’s not really like being able to sing the song as a man. I want to teach my daughter how to play this song, she’s only 3 right now. Love the story!

My father was born in 1924, there was something special about this generation of people and how they lived their lives. my father told me that most people back then were poor as dirt and didn't have luxuries like cars, most of them were small farmers and when they were not working which was not very often they entertained each other with music, it's one of the only things they had to do. My dad played the fiddle and did it well. They were hard working honest people, they fought in world war two and Korea MD sacrificed so much for this country. people like this is what we need in this country right now.

I have been working on a book that answers the question "Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone" for over 4 years which focus's on mainly Helen, June and Anita Carter along with their mom's band - "The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle" They had a great career and life's story. My book follows the Carters through 7 radio stations. They were such a unique and most talented all-female family band that rose to be a household name that filled every venue they played. The first band to really tour almost all of America from Maine to San Antonio by the early 50's. Heck they were the only band and females that Elvis Presley opened for and was billed lower than on the Opry tour for over a year. They helped all these great artists in different ways along the way, Chet Atkins, Hank Williams Sr, Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash and even Waylon Jennings later.

What an Amazing family talent! I grew up on the original country and Appalachian heritage music. It’s originality and content cannot be denied. It should give us folk that inherited these ancestors and their music a sense of admiration. My daddy was always playing the vinyl when he was at home. I still look up and thank him for sharing this musical gift with me.

I loved seeing this so much. I just finished reading the book "Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone" The Carter Family and their legacy in American Music. I had no idea that they put together so many of the songs that our young Jam Pak Blues 'N' Grass Neighborhood Band sings. This is truly epic.

I was just noticing this. My sister-in-law has the same color eyes. They just grab you the second you look at her. My lovely niece has them as well. My eyes are blue, but nothing noticeably different about them. Miss Maybelle's eyes were just incredible!

Thank you so much , I fell into a rabbit hole so to speak and went on a journey and the more I discovered the better the story got. Their life story of a mother and her 3 daughters traveling around entertaining people, singing their songs, making people laugh, helping others along the way is a heartwarming story. Its amazing really. Look for the book hopefully early 2024.

I’ve knew a little about Johnny, June and Rosanne Cash. But I didn’t know anything about the influence of the Carters. What a talented family (singing and instrumentally). The Carter Scratch is something else! What a legacy for Mother Maybelle.

It doesn't matter who the documentary is about, Mother Maybelle, June, Helen or even Johnny Cash, when Anita Carter opens her mouth and sings it's hard to concentrate on anything else.
