I remember singing this song in music class in junior high. Never knew Johnny Cash used to sing it.

I can clearly recall my father singing this for us as a special lullaby. My dad knew every western ballad ever written, I think.

We played this song at my Dad's funeral 2 days ago. Has alot of memories of him behind it. It was one of the only songs he would sing to us...

Dad grew up with Jihhny Cash and got me into him and this is one of are favorite songs. Mom doesnt care for Johnny Cash. When we are jamming out to him she says do we have to listen to this and right away be both say yes at the same time. Nothing like the Classics so much better then what they have now. The first piece of recorded music I purchased with my own money was Johnny Cash, Folsom Prison. Of course the second was Led Zeppelin II but to this day Johnny remains near and dear to my heart. As long as his name is remembered Johnny is still alive.

My grandpa used to speak the lyrics to this song all the time. He passed away about a year ago and when i listen to this song, all the memories of him come flooding back. I'm planning on getting a tattoo somehow including this song.

True, because there are all types of junkies aside from heroin. Johnny Cash fought his demons and publicly. And he still managed to inspire millions and save lives. He was a rare man. He even accepted Hippies back when his contemporaries were beating them up, if they strayed into their territory. Cash was a true "Holy Man" - a universal one. And I am an atheist. He would have accepted me too.

While Hollywood was making westerns at a National Park out West, the crew would sit around the fire w/ the park Ranger. The Park Ranger wrote great songs, this being one of them!! They took him back to Hollywood since he was so talented.
