In this clip, Jhonny Chang talked about his upbringing in East LA and the childhood trauma he dealt with coming from an abusive household. Jhonny described feeling like he was inadequate and only feeling accepted and fulfilled once he joined his gang. He also detailed how the dynamic between him and his older brother contributed to his feelings of envy and anger based on the deference he was forced to show his older brother due to traditional Chinese custom.

The respect thing in Asian culture is important but I know as an adult now that respect comes both ways. Respect is taught and earned. I don't care if you're 5 or 95 yo. If I don't respect someone I cannot expect them to respect me back. Obviously, kids need to be taught respect but i don't agree that an older sibling can say whatever they want without consequences as that teaches children that you're not allowed to stand up for yourself and speak truthfully at a young age. As vise versa as the older sibling you can speak to younger people without learning boundaries and respect.
