Dr. Richard Shaw, an expert hired by Johnny Depp's legal team, testified that the psychologist hired by Amber Heard's legal team broke rules and was unethical in rendering an evaluation of Depp without meeting with him. Shaw cited the Goldwater Rule, which calls for psychiatrists not to render an opinion of a public figure without having met with them to do a proper evaluation.

As wild as this trial has been, I can see this trial being used for case study and scrutinization for law students. It contains so many examples of proper testimony vs improper/inappropriate testimony. Examples of how to relate with a jury and come across as reliable vs testifying with a combative and defensive tone, which typically results in a jury dismissing your “professional opinions” and damaging your ability to win your case. It just has so many good vs poor examples to study and learn from. It certainly has been an entertaining one to watch.
@victrola2007

It will be absolutely be studied in part of, possibly, a full seminar or a course on the trial as a whole. Certainly, proper and wrong way to interpret and apply 'The Goldwater Rule'!
@chrisjenkins203
@chrisjenkins203 Жыл бұрын
@@victrola2007 Exactly! I would’ve never imagined this trial was going to be the rollercoaster ride it turned into. Yes, I expected some inconsistencies vs what’s seen in everyday trials. But for a deformation trial, the fireworks were vast and delightful. The “expert witnesses” (and I use that term lightly) for the defendants side and “Miss Heards” testimony of her own were just a complete train wreck to watch and hear. Also, Depps behavior, composure and overall mannerisms were so intriguing and satisfying to watch. For a guy who openly admitted to so many unflattering attributes and habits, he still managed to come across likable and more importantly, sincere and honest. Unlike Miss Heard, who came across extremely unlikeable, unreliable, dishonest and borderline fraudulent. It was such a genius move for Depp to start off by owning all of his flaws and that way, the defense couldn’t use them against him later on. But those are just a couple observations of what will make this such an intriguing and productive case study for future law students. And you’re correct! It contains so many rarities that I can already see places like Princeton and HLS including this trial in case method classes/workshops. This particular case is unquestionably worthy of in depth dissection and scrutinization. IMO, It certainly commands the attention of law schools and students. It will undoubtedly encourage productive, informative and beneficial ethical exploration and study. I can only imagine the discussions and knowledge it will provide future law students with. I’m actually reveling just thinking about how dynamic, rewarding and gratifying it would be to participate in such a class that includes this in its curriculum. It definitely resulted in being one for the books.

Sad about Amber's team is, in order to win and get justice, they hired individuals most likely committed a malpractice or have a criminal record or a junkie 😂 Heard cannot and shouldn't win, or even get a pass. She deserve prosecution too and be a good change if her lying witnesses gets charges and fines as well. There should be consequence on their actions. I’ve worked with children and adults with Autism and some adults with Asperger Syndrome, but Dr Speigel would appear to be in a league of his own. Am I qualified to say that without proof? No, but then neither was Dr Speigel without having met Mr Depp, no matter what his qualifications are.

So she’s pretty so what. Why would anyone possibly conclude that to indicate any likeliness of any benevolence? But people do believe it or not. That’s OK. I’m praying the truth prevails. This is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting moments in this trial. To bring a witness to the stand to not simply support/disparage Heard or Depp, but to educate the jury on why the activities of one of the expert witnesses is wholly counter to what is expected of an "expert" of that profession. It makes Dr. Speigell seem less like a practicing psychiatrist, and more like an actor whose roll is to make the jury question how psychological testing can feasibly be conducted.

As a clinician, this witness testimony was a refreshing rebuttal to yesterday’s completely unprofessional and unethical “opinions”. I am dismayed that Dr. Spiegel is treating patients and providing “expert testimony”, especially in a area of practice where many individuals struggle to be heard and overcome stigma related to mental illness, self harm and substance abuse disorders. His testimony showed bias and a total lack or empathy, as well as “traits” of projection of his own perceived shortcomings.

The ONLY positive that AH did for anyone was made the world aware of what specialists NOT to hire for ourselves in our lives. Congratulations Amber- not only have you trashed your own career, but you've managed to single handily destroy every single witness that you've put on the stand in your behalf. The choices made to pick and choose which specialist to hire for Amber's team also clearly indicate and mirror the exact type of characteristics Amber herself reflects. Every damn one of them are nuts. Johnny's were professional, well spoken and highly favored...Amber's were combative, did their jobs half-assed, presented themselves to be extremely argumentative and a know it all...... EXACTLY how Amber carries and portrays herself. Sidenote- Johnny is right hand dominate, so it's logical to agree that when a right hand dominate person throws a punch in the heat of an argument they would instinctively throw a punch with their dominate hand/ fist.... with a right hand dominate person throwing a right handed punch, any black eyes, bruises or marks would land on the receiving persons left side of their face... Quite odd how all of Amber's bruises, marks and black eyes were ALL on her right side of her face. She is also right hand dominate and instinctively, would unknowingly focus on the right side of her face when concentrating on bringing focus to a specific part of her face such as using makeup to create a bruise.

Amber has made a complete mockery of a movement for women in the industry to stand up against powerful men using their money and power against women for leverage to get what they want. The truth is, Amber and her entire defense and her testimony is a collaboration of a projected perception of what she did to Johnny. She did every single thing to him that she has testified he did to her. She is THE ABUSER! She is calculating, she is cunning and now she is CANCELED! And I still stand with Johnny Depp

so does the definition of psychopath, The most important testimony of the day was David A. Kulber, Johnny's hand specialist. Johnny's lawyer established Johnny could not punch with his right hand, and he also could not grab with his right hand. Amber's sister claimed Johnny grabbed Amber by the hair and punched her. If he had hit her with his injured finger, he would have had to get his cast fixed, which the doctor said he could not do. That would mean he had to have grabbed her by the hair with a hand that could not grab. Any way you look at her testimony it could not happen. Additionally, if he had been able to punch with his pinned finger, the bruise on Ambers face would have been on the other side of her face.

A psychopath is defined as an individual as having a lack of empathy for others, but uses charm and charisma to manipulate people they encounter. Psychopaths are not recognized as an official mental health disorder, but psychopath traits include using people to gain power, money, and more without any regret or remorse.

@@goodtimesbadtimes5273 actually that specific example about Trump and his tweets has been picked apart and explained ad nauseam as to why it *still* can’t be an official diagnosis, but dozens of psychiatrists have made private exceptions due to concerns about his level of power over the nation and the world to state their private opinions that he regularly and publicly exhibits more than 5 of the 9 traits for NPD. Spiegel used “snippets” of the UK trial, some deposition material, and (arguably between his own deposition and testimony yesterday) also some of Depp’s acting. So short answer is, no, official diagnosis can’t be made in either case without meeting with the patient, and otherwise the two examples (Depp & Trump) are nothing alike in quality of material reviewed or quantity of professionals consulted. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Agree! I forgot I was watching a KZfaq video of the trial to see what I missed. I completely was focused on every word he said and was inputting it into my brain as information on psychiatry. He was amazing. Was never bored. And didnt see this as me partaking in my guilty pleasure which is what this trial was for me. I didn't feel guilty after watching this because of how much I learned about his field and how Heard's psychiatrist's, all of them, violated their fiduciary duties that one in their profession should have upheld while testifying as an expert witness. That's so sad. And they are still surprised that they lost this case. Come on. Heard and her lawyers are delusional. Honestly if I were Amber I'd sue my lawyers for hiring the "expert" witnesses that they did, and allowing them to testify in the manner in which they did. I know it's hard to defend the guilty but they made it worse for her.

For anyone who is a curious cat like I am, “The Goldwater Rule is a statement of ethics first issued by the American Psychiatric Association in 1973 restraining psychiatrists from speculating about the mental state of public figures.
