He also appreciates those people who gave him that chance and his fans are also he considers as his employeers I love it. The things in his past has made him a blues player, My opinion.

The thing I like is his phrasing and vibrato. The licks and riffs are simple, but he plays them in a really polished way. It's nothing special, but it's nice.

It's simple, but quite fun. There aren't very many guitarists that play three note, or diatonic, shredding away in rapid note succession, that are actually fun to listen to. Once you get bored with the speed adrenaline, there's not much left musically. I love listening to Tony Iommi, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page.

I think when he sings he plays simpler.

He has a very good grasp of the tone and raunchy style he wants to hear, some players can't lay back like that....less is more sometimes

I saw Johnny Depp playing with Jeff Beck. I felt thatJjohnny was just a poser, with his way-out costume, and his Telecaster hanging down to his knees. I would guess that even Beck's guitar tech could play circles around Depp, and suggested on "The Gear Page" guitar forum, that Johnny must have financed the Beck tour, or perhaps bought him a new tour bus, to get in with the band. Jeff Beck and Alice Cooper didn't/don't suffer fools lightly, and both would be serious about who they play with, so maybe I'm wrong.? (PS. I got banned from the guitar forum for my comment...)

I just want to know why people always say Johnny Depp is an "AVERAGE" 🎸guitar player or he just plays "BASIC" chords. Johnny is self taught and has been playing guitar since he was 12 years old and has been in quite a few bands. Being that he is now about to turn "60" years old that means he has been playing guitar for literally "48" years. Probably longer than some of the people who are making videos commenting on his playing. When Johnny is in bands, I'm sure he's playing his position. Like for instance when he plays with the "Hollywood Vampires 🧛‍♂️🦇, "Joe Perry" is the lead guitarist and more known as a player, so of course Johnny would be playing second to him and only playing what's necessary as a background player. Likewise when he was on tour with the late great "Jeff Beck" (R.I.P), he was also the secondary guitarist, as Jeff of course was the lead. What is it going to take for people to stop judging this man and admit he's a damn good guitar player. His guitar is literally strapped to his hip everywhere he goes LOL😊 also it has been said that he plays the piano and drums as well are you going to start judging on that next?

Playing an instrument is more than just showing off your skills and playing difficult songs. What Johnny's doing isn't him trying to show the world that he can play the guitar. He's just having fun jamming with his friends. Just the way he plays the guitar shows that he has a lot of experience and he is one with his instrument. He feels the music he plays. He puts his soul into the music he's playing. Most musicians can't do that. Sure there are plenty of musicians with high skills but plays like a freaking wood with zero emotions. Sadly I'm one of those musicians. Sure I'm pretty good at playing my guitar and just like you I can easily play what Johnny is playing here but I cannot express the same emotions he's showing while playing this song. You weren't able to capture the soul of this song either even though your notes were all accurate. I know musicians like Johnny. In fact one of my mentor that taught me how to play the guitar plays exactly like Johnny. He has incredible skills but doesn't go around showing it. He might teach you to play like your favorite shredder but he prefers songs that bring emotions. So yes, Johnny is an incredibly talented musician and knows how to play the guitar VERY well. There shouldn't be any doubt about it.

If he wasn’t Johnny Depp then he wouldn’t be playing big gigs. He can play, but basic stuff. Nothing wrong with it, but think people get annoyed as ‘better’ guitarists have to slum it in bars etc, and don’t get the same opportunities as him. But that’s the whole celeb culture I guess

Sounds adequate but boring. There are guys who can ¨jam¨ as we used to say, and then there are those that can ¨play all ´round¨. I haven´t heard him enough to tell which he might be. If this is his best foot forward then it doesnt pique my interest that much. No use for a one-trick pony in a working band unless all you do is play heavy distortion-driven blues. Rated as one of the greatest guitar players of all time is Keith Richards. A sentiment I wholly agree with. Keith kept it simple. Nothing wrong with that. Blistering lead guitar solos and so many notes per second etc etc is more an American viewpoint on who is better than who. But, boys and girls, it’s not an Olympic sport to be measured and timed. It’s art, which is subjective. If the guy sounds good and he’s getting to people, then he’s good. Measure it with your soul, not a stopwatch. Listen hard to Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards. THATS what it’s about. Encourage beginners with great grooves, not impossibly difficult techniques. Sorry for rambling.
