Strange thing is that Johnny Marr is only four years older than Noel but because he was only 19 when The Smiths became huge and 23 when they split up it seems like he has been around for longer. He’s been famous for nearly 40 years. He wrote this song when he was 20, which is incredible.

+MrPge1970 On that point, the song would be 1000% better without the depressing as hell lyrics. The tune soars, but the words make you want to jump down a well. I always wished this tune had different lyrics or even was just an instrumental.

I think we could all agree that was epic… I don’t think any of us thought that Johnny Marr could pull that off as good as he did. Hope that The Roots took notes from this guitar god (and they’re supremely talented). But no one can bend a chord like Mr. Johnny Marr. Genius.

Let's not forget his amazing work with Matt Johnson of The The.

I always wondered how Marr played this song live. In fact, I wasn't sure it could be done.

Morrissey is imagining storming onto that set and saying "No no no, stop the music, stop, stop the music. Thats not how you do it. This is how you do it! Hurrr shut yurr murrthhhhh hurrr hurrrr"

Well here it is children. At 3.57 into the song Mr Marr detunes his guitar to create the sound. No studio auto-tune-tom-fuckery there. That's Hendrix style invention (using the instrument to create sounds rather than tech). See Marr's ork with The The (Dusk). epic work....:)

You're just going to ignore all of the studio experimentation that Hendrix did?
