Those 2 old Vietnamese dudes were so chill. My family is Vietnamese and I'm so glad you visited that shop and supported the owners. I honestly feel so bad for the Vietnamese people going through the war in Ukraine, simply because I know what our people have been through already. Of course, nobody deserves war, but frankly, it feels like watching my own family navigate a brutal and indiscriminant war (for the second time). Tragedy.

For information, the babuska with melons at the clothing market buys her produce at a huge vegetable market near the trucks with watermelons. You can have better deals there 😉 I spent my first 23 years of life there and I only was attacked a couple of times, so it's not especially dangerous. I can see that these places have not changed since I left Ukraine 11 years ago.

This Bazaar is when I first encountered Johnny and watched him ever since. I used to be a big fan of Ben, but I stopped watching him after how he treated Roman (NFKZ) when the war started, not nice at all! On the plus side, thanks to Johnny I learned lots of interesting things, found Starsky and Brendan and other channels, and switched from learning Russian to Ukrainian. Slava Ukraini!

2:44 Honestly hearing about how companies in the West are still doing business in Russia just under different brand names, really pisses me off! We had an agreement as nations that came together to sanction the hell out of Russia for their acts of aggression and here we have companies not honoring that agreement by selling the products through secondary networks through Turkey and Georgia. A lesson we all seem to keep forgetting myself included is that corporations are not your friends and will sellout your country and it's allies for a few extra billion dollars... then again it's what General Motors and Coca cola did as well in WW2 they can deny it all they want and say they "lost control over their factories in Germany" but there is documentation in both the US and German archives proving that they did aid the Nazis in WW2 and in fact have profited off of forced labor camps in Germany to make a quick buck. At this point if we truly want to help Ukraine we must Boycott the companies that still have shops in Russia especially the one's hiding under a different brand name cause even though it's a different brand or name the money is still going back to the PARENT company and do what we did to Russian billionaires by seizing their wealth and assets as punishment for their treason.

At least you speak Ukrainian! I knew a very little bit of Russian enough to get by. The younger generation spoke great english & the older generation spoke a mixture of Kazakh & Russian. I've hardly ever felt threatened in Kyiv. As a young girl I used to go out later after work and even coming back after dark by myself I never felt endangered. Now I'm in Europe (Budapest) and even in the middle of the day this place freaks me out sometimes. The worst part is not all the homeless/drunk/mental people, but the fact that in case someone acts aggressive, the people around don't do ANYTHING. I've witnessed a couple of ugly scenes, and there were multiple folks standing around, able to stop it, but did jack shit.

Well, i was there in the area a few days ago but not at the market, its to bad i have to go back to Sweden and work but im coming back soon!

*Johnny this sounds a bit of an odd thing to think about* but I was talking to an Estonian friend of mine who's in Poland right now and we were talking about the difference between being inside of Ukraine and outside. Being a designer and thinking about colour and aesthetics a lot, she felt like it wasn't so much about being in night and day but rather that being in Poland or Estonia felt like being in full glorious technicolor but felt that crossing over the border, those colours get washed out and feels more grey. I see what she says. One of your older videos showed you and a friend heading off to a Polish shopping centre to get McDonalds, and it felt lively and vibrant like any European city. But watching you cross over the border and travelling for a while, it sort of felt grey, even though your camera depicts a lot of activity going on over there. You get the feeling that, just over the wall life is going to be grim. But I watch this video, and whilst I see people are doing the best that they can - despite the potato head in the Kremlin, the Ukraine's inhabitants seem to still have a warm character to them which helps to repaint the colour back into the picture. Apologies for using this analogy but its great to see you bring all aspects of Ukraine on to the screen for us to see. I will one day visit Ukraine. 🇺🇦 ❤ 🇬🇧

It seems like a normal market to me, I don't know what the reputation is about. The tougher meat you chewed on could be just a poorer area only being able to afford cheaper cuts of meat. The store rebranding could be copy-cat stores, sourcing the genuine goods through other countries. I dislike slurping too, in the UK it is a sign of poor manners. Cultural differences I suppose.

I appreciate you making videos from Ukraine :) However, I wouldn't recommend them to somebody trying to learn more about the country. Eg, "this is the last remaining place in Ukraine where you can get Asian food by Asian people, because everyone left" - huh? Ukraine is a huge country, and I've only been to Lviv (and countryside) recently, but even I know of several Asian food places where food is made by Asians 😄 Please don't generalise and state something that you don't know. It's better to say eg "other Asian places I went to have now closed" or something, but don't try to present something as facts if you don't know. It would matter less if it wouldn't be the war, but these days random propagandists use whetever disinfo they find and try to turn things around, so please keep to personal impressions rather than fuel the barrage of misinformation coming from all places when people try to learn more about Ukraine.
