As a black man who grew up watching the The Duke's Of Hazard and still a fan, when people started crying about the the flag, your show NEVER preached racism or hatred. The Duke's Of Hazard always preached right from wrong. I thank you and the show for being a great show.

Salazar Payne I say that all the time, the way these kids act now a days is an absolute, pure disgrace to they’re ancestors who actually had to deal with real racism and oppression, and actually fought for they’re freedoms that they have today, and they walk all over it like it means nothing. MLK would be devastated if he seen how things were today. If they’re ancestors seen today how loosely they threw that racism term around and played the race card for anything that hurts they’re feelings, everyone of them would get they’re head smacked off they’re dang shoulders by they’re own ancestors. It’s really a pure disgrace, it makes me absolutely sick and I’m not even African American.

When he said his steering wheel was not General Lee, my very first though was; How can it not be. Anything Bo or Luke does to a car called General Lee, is an offical General Lee. If he painted it pink with a rainbow flag it still would be a General Lee. Now we may have to call it "Bo's mental breakdown General Lee" However, we don't have to worry. I'm sure John would never do that.

As a black kid growing up it was Dukes, Knight Rider and then Miami Vice. I had the dukes of hazzard race track set with the little cardboard ramp in the middle of the track...good times man. Never got hung up over the flag on a car on a tv show about two dudes fighting bad guys.

When I was 4 and got my first bike it was the General Lee model. I loved it. I grew up in Ohio and not once did I think “I don’t like black people” or “I’m from the North, screw the South.” It was just a fun TV show. Of course, that was the 80s when we didn’t get hung up on things like that so much. I’m now in my 40s and have met thousands of people and have only met one racist. Yet today, they try to sell this story that racism is our biggest problem. It’s not. The politicians and the media selling that story are our biggest problem. When they try to divide us we need to reject them until they learn it’s not going to work.

I met John Schneider along with a friend of mine at a car show that was hosted in a park in LA in summer of 1998, if I remember correctly. We did not expect him to be there. I remember he was at a table with someone else selling General Lee die cast cars and there was a life size General Lee nearby as well. He was so friendly and down to earth that it was like talking to another car enthusiast, not a celebrity. Although, after initially spotting him there, we were like is that really John Schneider? Let's go find out, and we did.

John, growing up watching the Dukes of Hazzard was and will always be something special to me, the show and the values it portrayed were just as great as the car action that appealed to all kids from 79 and on through the 80’s. In 2018 my father passed unexpectedly from an off roading accident, we held his memorial service at a friends house in Lebec, Ca at a friends house tucked up in between 2 fingers of the mountside, with an incredibly long driveway to the house. I was completely unaware that it was your old house, where you lived during the filming of the show! It was a surreal moment in time, honoring my father at Bo Dukes house!! Serendipitously unreal experience for me and now cherished memory, because it felt right in a sad time.

Dead Purple Here's one for ya, I even got one up on John Schneider, earlier this year I got my picture taken sitting in the actual Sanford and Son pickup truck, and there's only one of them. It's in the exact condition it was when the show was filmed, if anyone's interested it's at a place called Blueline Classics in North Royalton Ohio, you can check it out at Bluelineclassics.com, they even sell cool T-shirts that have the logo from the driver's door on the front of them, picked up 3 of them when I was there. Having grown up in the 70's and watching that show it was the thrill of a lifetime getting my picture taken sitting in it, most if the surviving stars of the show have signed the dash and visors in it, coincidentally I happened to go there the day after Nathaniel Taylor died, he's the guy who played Rollo and his signature was on the dash and one of the visors.

I saw a show restoring old cars. The body/paint expert explained why old cars almost universally rusted along the bottom line. There was openings in the rear from the production process, and once water got in it had no way out. It would just lay in the channel and rust away. Among other improvements, modern manufacturing sprays a wax in there to help protect.

My name is Luke and I used to get teased by kids calling me Luke Duke. Lol What a simpler time it was back then! Thank you and the rest of the actors who did a wonderful job of setting good examples, and creating some entertaining content for everyone to watch! Thank you for sharing Sir! Blessings!!

The way I look at the changes, especially you're personal General Lee there John, is that most people that love to tinker and work on their cars are never satisfied, and continue thru the entire ownership of the car the change or modify it in some way. I do the same thing. The character of Bo (and Luke) clearly being big car guys in the south, would most definitely have been tinkering, modifying and upgrading stuff on the General Lee for as long as they own it. Seems like a natural progression that happens in real life.

I only considered it as the flag of the confederacy, nothing more. It didn’t occur to me as being a symbol of oppression for a race of people. In fact in 1984 I bought a small confederate flag sticker and put it on the corner on my cars rear window. I looked upon it as my way of saying I am a rebel going against the mainstream flow. Nothing more. I do hope that anyone noticing it didn’t see me as racist. Enjoyed the video, thanks John.

@Colin Chung what about my comment made you think I'm cool with the confederacy...? I don't like the flag, that's why I said if I made a general Lee it'd be with a Gadsden flag instead and I'd call it the General Leebertarian

I love that he’s still son passionate about it after all these years. It was his first big role and cemented him in the tv industry and he clearly is very grateful for it. He seems genuine like a lot of fun.

I’ll never own one but I watch the show on a daily basis to get my fix. Thank you for sharing this beautiful example of what a car should be. They just don’t make em like they used too. God bless you and the entire cast.

Wow John … absolutely amazing history on such an epic time to grow up watching you, the rest of the cast, and of course, The General Lee ! Thank you so much, for enlightening us on so many facts, that we all took for granted, from what we remember. Like watching a black-and-white movie - when the story is so good, you forget it’s not in color- the “show” did that for me, every episode. All I know, is that when the 01 was on that night, it was great to have a TV allowed to show it. Thanks also, for your great enthusiasm, of keeping this movie star alive! So friggin’ coool !

I still have my Buck 110 folding knife. I've had that knife for more than 30 years. I specifically wanted one because I saw the Duke boys wearing them. Thank you for so many good memories.

That must be where my fascination with those come from. I don't even know how many I have. I search second hand stores for them and get them on ebay. They are timeless. And heavy!

I don't know which is more cool, that you have a General Lee or that you spent so much time going over it for us. Thank you so much! It's a shame that when you buy a model of it now, they don't include the roof decals
