it's a fabulous video, a video like few I have been able to see, clear and detailed. I have a doubt when it comes to tightening the aluminum rivet with the crimping tool , I don't want to damage the fishing line with the pressure of the crimping tool. when you know that you don't have to do more force? Greetings from Spain, and thank you very much
@Seastheday88

There is 3 sizes on this crimping tool. Just match the rated line to the crimp. They manufacture it so you don’t over crimp. Thats why I stick with Jinkai brand for line, crimp and crimp tool. All made to their exact specs. Hope that helps!

just watch your great vidio .I am going on a 3 day fishing trip out of San Diego on May 22, 2024 i want to make my own 200 lb leaders where do i get all materials you used. This will be my first Blue Fin / Yellotail fishing trip Three days on the Exell boat. I am takeing my Grandson he has never caught a fish of any kind before . I have been Marlene Fishing several times, and Salmon Fishing. And sail fishing. So very excited about this trip. Thank you for a great tutorial. You are not using a spring is this a reason.
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, much appreciated 🙌 Are you referring to a steel spring type as protector on loop ends? I went with the chaffing tube types after good results and availability. I also considered longevity between aluminum crimp and steel spring contact, but you’ll likely replace the leader way before any corrosion occurs. I’ll give spring a try when I run out of the tubes 🤙

Thank you brotha. I’ll be honest. Tried on a 2day and couldn’t hook up. However, I’ve been using another independent guy making his own leaders and I still have some. His led me to these as I noticed similar details. With his, I did 3x 70lb BFT on the same night. Gave those to a couple buddies and they caught theirs as well np. I’ll be on one in aug to try again, but comparing materials so far, I’d say the only weak link is the split ring. Go as heavy as possible on the split ring as that will pry first if you do everything else properly. Hope it helps.

Hi. I got the Jinkai from TackleDirect during a holiday sale. But you can always hit up your local tackle. I got the 9km hardware from AliExpress. The chaffing tube was Amazon but I believe you can also get it from TackleDirect.

Great info on the component sourcing. I do it pretty much exactly like that with zero failure in 3 years. My variation is, I use a heavy split ring on the bottom crimped loop instead of the infinity solid ring.

@Seas the Day Sure did. Plenty of low 100's and a 188#er. Started this year off on a solid note. 3 day trip on The Intrepid in late April. The bite was tough but I managed to go 4 for 5. 50,50,85 and a 95#er. All at night, all on the 300# homemade bite leader with a 300gr Rip Roller in Katy Perry. Have you been out in 2023? When is your next trip?

thank you for all the information you and I wanna make my own liters and now that you showed me about how to do it now I understand a lot about it. I’ve seen some videos where they make them different. Were they attach a ring on the lower side extra ring and they hook the hooks. Said the assist took to that instead of today the knife jig but I need the reason for that is they said that the the fish could use the knife check as of I guess of a lever to rip the hooks out their mouth, but it didn’t really make a lot of sense but anyway, yeah, thank you for the information you’re really really very knowledgeable

Could you use this same set up for popper leaders? Maybe lighter mono, call it 140lb? Or how would you change? Thanks
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 10 ай бұрын
I been thinking about that for only a split ring at popper end. But I wouldn’t want a swivel at the top as I’m more liking to wind up to my guide. I think the best thing is to test 140lb chew off rate. Im still using 80lb blue label for my leader on popper setup as of 2 weeks ago. Didn’t want to test it with mono, still didn’t get bit tho casting into all our local foamers.
@33joelboy
@33joelboy 9 ай бұрын
@@Seastheday88 With a popper I'm only going with a 12 - 18" leader so there isn't a danger of winding it into the guides. And I've been using 140lb fluoro and killing it with the Chug Norris poppers. Capt of the boat wanted me to switch to mono for the stretch.
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 9 ай бұрын
@@33joelboy in that case, it’ll work for your application. I’m curious about the stretch of mono in that short of length in this lb test. I use it as bite leader, not stretch.
@33joelboy
@33joelboy 9 ай бұрын
@@Seastheday88 apologies for all the questions. So swivel at one end of the leader with a split ring connecting the popper and the other end the braid is tied to the infinity ring. The braid won't chafe against the ring and break or should I consider a solid ring or should I put a swivel on that end as well? And what knot should I tied with braid, I was thinking Palomar.
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 9 ай бұрын
@@33joelboy oh gotcha. On my jigging setup. I have the setup on top so I just tie my braid directly to swivel ring via Uni knot, you can double loop the ring, single works for me. If you do swivel at popper side, the other end you could do connection knot, FG. If you plan to keep the crimp, then just a solid ring is enough, I’ll test the infinity ring for a line knot directly to it, because the solid ring I bought from same company, 80lb fluoro kept breaking when I would cinch down my knots. Found the solid ring was stamped hole, so there’s a sharper edge at one side.

Hey Steve! That’s awesome! Yea it’s worth it at the end. I did a simple hooked at one end and pull with my body weight on other end. Did it again on another that I thought I messed up on by over-crimping, but still held. Hard to gauge overall, but perform enough crimps and overall to feel confident in the process, so that we can trust it like our knots. Congrats on the catch.
