The hs 45 is an outstanding hedge trimmer. I bought it brand new. I had my Stihl dealer fill it with Stihl MotoMixafter putting an extra cap full of Stihl Ultra in the tank. It cranked right up. It had a slight problem I’d lying until I had cut with it fora few minutes. I add the extra cap full of Ultra for the first two tanks. After that it gets my standard 50:1 Stihl Ultra mix. I put two tanks on it this morning,, so it is filled with my regular Pond Water. It never missed a beat.

Thanks Brad. Last time I tried to start mine I primed, choked, pulled, unchoked, full throttled, pulled some more, primed some more, cursed, tried every combination possible to no avail. I was determined so I sprayed some starting fluid in there and that didn't even work. I decided it wasn't worth the trouble and I would just dump it. I resorted to trimming my Escallonia hedges with a hand shears. I just tried your way and it started on the second pull. I just trimmed one of my hedges that was in dire need until I ran out of gas. Thanks again. 🙂

Nice explanation on how to start it, and mine will start, but from i hour use from new will not run at part throttle, 50:1 fresh mix, been back to 2 stihl dealers, where i purchased new, they gave me the run around and could not fix, went to another who said "why do you want part throttle, idle and flat out only"...what? Read somewhere to replace the carby, so an ebay carby went on, brand new Stihl carby went in the bin. Ran well for about 18 months and back to stalling on part throttle. I've given up on Stihl, bought a used Shindaiwa DH230, great, no more Stihl for me.

Thank you for your helpful video. I tried all your steps and my hedge trimmer did not start. I went back to Ace hardware. The first thing he said us what kind of fuel are you using? I told him I mix the one small Stihl 2 and one with one gallon of gasoline. He dumped the fuel, put in the premix 50.1 fuel and within a couple of tries it started right up.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
The correct question should have been, “How old is the gas that was in the machine”? It’s not what kind of gas your using. Yes, non ethanol is the way to go and ASPEN two cycle already pre-mixed is even better. Yes, every one now is making there own fuel. If you can afford to purchase the already mixed gas(it is expensive), that would be the way to go. They also have fuel stabilizers in the fuel for a very long shelf life. Check out ASPEN. I am not affiliated or making any money from them but it is the best on the market in my opinion. I’m glad you were able to get it going!
@revelationsoundstudio Жыл бұрын
I went to try to start it again and it won't start. Fuc# Stihl equipment 😡 Going back to Ace and have them start it for me.....again..😫 Ace said if it does not start after several pulls with the choke on,turn off the choke as it can flood the engjne.

I've just gotten a trimmer like this (same manufacturer, dont know about the model) to use at work and I find the idea of using that button a tad dubious.
