I used to have fear in JB until I tried visiting. Nowadays I travel to JB almost every week. I had my lok lok on the street in the middle of the night. Danger can be anywhere it depends on location and time. Look at how many visitors every weekend.

I travel to JB/malaysia more often then I travel in Europe, but end up I been pick pocket in Europe but not in Malaysia.

when it comes to safety, sg is an exception in the world so cannot compare. sg also have their fair share of crimes too. us and europe is way worst! however jb and my have lots of awesome things that sg can never have. actually no point comparing both countries. just enjoy both and appreciate their beautiful uniqueness too!

Sometimes the surge for grab can be insane . We took grab from ksl to Ikea Ternbau for Rm12 which is cheap. When we were going back it cost RM 60 which is 5 times for tue same distance

My honest take is how safe is really depending on which part you go and how do you present yourself (like wearing many expensive items and very obvious). I have colleague who was robbed twice and cases for kopi money is not uncommon. My JB friends themselves also say when they go back JB they usually dont dare walk dark alleys or solo during night unless driving in car. There was once my hotel reception told me not to walk the alley nearby as a Chinese was robbed recently (but yes this was some time ago during period when just opening up after covid). So far I have never gotten into any incident because I always take precaution. So I feel JB is safe only if you take precaution, but is it really considered as safe in this sense then?

Dangerous place indeed! Personally, i have experienced the dangers in different forms - extortions by 18:05 police, robbery, exploitations. First hand accounts and revelations of their terrifying encounters by both johorean contractors working in Spore and Sporean friends serve to underscore the real dangers. Why choose to put yourself in harm's way? To quote my Msian friend "Even if you are in danger, I won't dare to help you." Foreigners stand out on foreign soil (even if geographically the distance is just 2km apart) are visible and easy targets for predators. When law enforcement people are also in that count - what do or can you expect? Fool me again? No way.

Sgp is safer cos its a fraction the size of jb. There is no where to run or hide in sgp.
