Edwardian Lady I totally agree. I enjoy watching junk / vintage journal videos but I think the digital kits (even though some are lovely) just make everyones journals look similar. Luckily there are channels like this one where you can tell there has been a lot more thought and attention to detail put into the whole process.

My comment is a bit late but I’ve had no keyboard for a couple of days! I love the way you are putting this journal together totally tailored to the likes and personality of your friend. What an original and personal gift to give, not just your time but your thoughts and creativity making this such a special gift. I only do my journals for myself as a means of having a special place to be creative for my own pleasure. I used to paint and frame pictures but there are only so many walls in a house! My journals are far to eclectic to contemplate selling as I don’t theme them but do what I feel like on any given day. For the junk journal side I’ve pretty much copyyou 😊😊but the art is all mine. Looking forward to watching you decorate this journal as I really love what you do and unashamedly pinch your ideas xxx

Tracing paper, including old pattern papers, are great in a journal. The journalist can use the paper to trace a motif from a book, or make a rubbing with it. Tissue paper, vellum, likewise are nice additions for sound and visual effect that comes from layering. Graph paper is nice to add to do design work on. Gentlemen like a wallet sized notebook of graph paper to plan projects and take to the hardware store. I love your inspiring channel!

I may make one for a friend, after your inspiration. She doesn't do any crafts but likes to write letters. Maybe I can get her into journaling. I like all the beautiful digital for junk journals. However I have not figured out how to download them and had to enlist help from family members when I purchased them. Luckily I have a variety of books and papers to use. Thanks for the inspiration.

A book is a great idea, but also, using an AWL to punch the holes us much easier on the hands as it is longer and has a handle to hold onto. :) but does same job. :)

I really enjoyed your video--and imagine my surprise when I saw I map of where I live (north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota) and then where my daughter lives (Blaine, Minnesota) in your pages! I've just recently learned about junk journaling and have been binge-watching so many of your videos. I made my first junk journal for my young granddaughter so we can make pockets and tags and decorate pages together. My second one will be for my daughter to use as a travel journal. I was so glad to see you use two signatures, which was just what I was needing at the moment. Thanks for another great video!

Hi Joie, I’ve finally found the perfect time to watch you most recent tutorial. (My husband had Emg. Surgery and is finally home and resting.) so many, many fabulous ideas. You have chosen wonderful pages once again for your journal remembering your friends most likely things she will enjoy. I find if a journal is pleasing to look at we are most likely to use it to write, pencil color or paint in. I too enjoy Amity Blooms wonderful inspiration. Great idea for some who may not have a score board. I especially like how you have placed your papers. ( not every page even with one and other. I do like using an awl and an only phone book. I put the signature in the open page fitting it tightly in to the spine of the phone book, then punching my holes. Just an idea I saw on another channel a while ago. I always bind mine the same way so I can add two small charms dangling that goes well with the journal. Thank you, again, for sharing how your process of putting together your journals especially why you choose the papers you do. I too especially liked the different vibrant colors of what looked like scrapbook paper and your middle signature and how you made the book page fit so well as to include the entire page. I’m looking forward to seeing how you will decorate it. Perhaps that lovely bird can be fussy cut for a tuck spot. I did really like him as well. So happy for KZfaq as I was still able to watch what I was so looking forward to. Btw, yes indeed when I clean up and put things away I’ve forgotten that perfect place I’d thought it should go. Hope it reappears🤗 hugs

I am in the process of making journals for gifts and am using very beautiful and textured & sturdy calendar pages for the outside covers that I bought on clearance last year. It's nice to watch and hear your process; I love ledger paper, especially the old ones (haven't found any old ones yet, but I do like using the newer ones). I really like how you not only used a variety of "found" papers, but you used folds to make them interesting. I'm going to have to practice that, I love the way your pages came together. You made me chuckle about putting things away and then not finding them. I do that all the time! I try to be organized, but I do spend a lot of time looking for something that I KNOW I have somewhere because I JUST had it a little while ago and put it AWAY, lol. Really enjoyed seeing your process, particularly with choosing the papers and deciding how to fold them. I’ve watched several journal creation videos but this has to be the most inspiring to date. Now I see where I can improve in my own journal making process. For instance I have been cutting off any excess paper when I could have perhaps turned it into a pocket page. I can’t wait to see how you decorate it 😊

I really enjoyed your take on how to select the papers for making a journal for a friend. Personally I like just a little charm or something on the end of the strings but don't really care for those big tassels, I feel that is a waste of materials. Hello! Just found your channel. So happy! When I pierce paper, such as for book signatures, I like to lay the paper on a mouse pad. That way the papers stay flat and don’t move, and the mouse pad gives the needle something squishy to push in to.

I actually find that if I add anything other than a bead at the end of a long tie on outside binding it is only in the way when I try to lay my journal flat, and so I tend not to decorate the spine and leave that for the friend or buyer so that I'm not making that decision that bugs me for someone else.
