A demonstration of joining a two piece vase, taken from my recent Crystalline glaze workshop at Dunedin Fine Arts Center in Florida, February 2016.
Many thanks to Carl Leisegang for filming throughout the weekend and providing some of the footage used for this video.

Beautiful artistry. When I was at college, I ran away from the wheel like a thief...now I regret. Pinch, coil, slab,...the wheel is more fascinating.

Beautiful piece. I enjoyed watching a masterpotter at work. Too bad I could not hear his comments. I was forced to mute the audio and begin the video at the start. The foolish people added nothing to this. The Zen of watching this must be done in silence. I admire the extreme concentration and patience shown. Nice to see such a craftsman who is younger and attractive, as it seems most masters are geezerly.

A beautiful piece - so what would have been different if you had done this as one piece? Is there a benefit to doing it as two?
@Matthornepottery
@Matthornepottery 8 жыл бұрын
+Nick Doe Normally a piece of this size would be made in one go, this was just to demonstrate the joining process. You can achieve much larger pots if they are joined in sections.

So, He uses the torsch instead of cooking the pieces?
@Matthornepottery
@Matthornepottery 2 жыл бұрын
No, the torch dries out the piece while it's being worked on to give it additional stability. All pieces are still fired in the kiln.

Doesn't seem as though they were truly interested in what he had to teach as much as they were their own voices. Gawd why do people have to do that? Cackle cackle cackle - Geez. He is a fantastic potter - they had a great opportunity to learn if they would have just shut up and observed.
