The thing about new edition and jodeci is that jodeci had devante swing . If Ralph tresvant had devante producing for him he would’ve had a interesting solo career going into the mid to late 90s
@BigdogGaming-sm3lj4 ай бұрын
I agree with you 💯 on that point. Devonte was the right producer that Ralph needed. I will take it even further.New edition after the home again album. They should have gotten D-swing to produce the follow up to home again.

Great point

@@BigdogGaming-sm3lj devante was in no place or position to produce hardly anything by that time. he was fighting his own demons.

Ralph's first album was done mostly by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Ill take them over practically anyone. The 2nd album, while enjoyable, thats where Devante would have surely come in handy for. Ralph didnt do any solo work again until what.....2006 or so.
@BigdogGaming-sm3lj4 ай бұрын
@@mrsain19 I was not talking about the sensitivity album.That whole album was fire. I do agree with you on his second album. It was good but devante would have made it fire with his slow tempo basement sound.

Danny Boy (in a different interview) said the reason Jojo and Bobby started fighting was different. He said while they was in the car talking sh*t chillin initially, but at some point during the conversation Bobby Brown stared trying to slap box with K-ci, and K-ci wasn't with it, BUT Bobby wouldn't stop playing, so Jojo eventually hauled off on him, cause they told Bobby to stop playing multiple times. Same thing happened with Bobby during Usher's birthday party a way back, Bobby was (drunk/high) and playing too much, and Usher had to hit Bobby with the 2 piece.

I imagine, he has a great memory and once he’s heard the script he will memorize it. BUT, if there are any major changes in the dialogue or the script and he’s asked to make changes right on the spot, he is exposed as being semi literate. Actors don’t necessarily have to have hone to Juliard but an actor has to be very literate and enjoys reading books.

Dang inbox me. I knew jodeci had a church upbringing but they were still wild. Idk how they were b4 they moved to nyc tho. I’ve heard wild stories too but they’re more funny than vile. Every story I hear I laugh bc it’s usually absurd in a way. They are still larger than life. I know Devante swing was the first artist to start a hip hop/rnb label, in the early 90s when black musicians didn’t really do that so young or that early on their career. Easy had ruthless but that was rap, prince had paisley records but that was rnd/minn sound. Before death row and bad boy there was swing mob. And that same blueprint is followed to this day, lil Wayne with young money, drake with ovo. The way they expanded their brands across the industry and ran it, is the way devantes artists (missy and nem) was expanded across the industry in the 2000s, and it wouldn’t have happened without Devante swing first. Tho he doesn’t get the credit he deserves like the other moguls, that’s word to Kirk Franklin. Mary j wasn’t discovered by or signed to diddy and she still gives him credit for helping her career esp in the beginning. Another thing, Jodeci’s style and the tattoos, I know jodeci were the first black artists to be seen with tats/piercings, rappers weren’t even doing tats and piercings in the early 90s. Look at pac in the early 90s and look at him toward the mid 90s wearing the leather vest, nose and ear piercing with that huge thug life tattoo lol even my dad started wearing those leather vests, baggy shorts and he even had an ear piercing! Prior to that he dressed like bill cosby and looked like ice t. Today it’s like the uniform for rappers, really every black artist, actually it’s apart of our customs, college kids and kids in the Midwest even have sleeves tats now. In nba young boys diss to drake (who is the poster child for how rnb and hip hop became global and expanded outside of our demographic, it’s not ironic he’s a huge jodeci fan) nba yb said ‘’when did rnb singers start wearing face tats?’’ in his diss record to drake lol, but I know Devante swing was the first with a face tat lol. Most of us don’t know our history bc it’s never told or it’s muddied in half truths and lies, as blacks that shouldn’t even be happening in 2024 but that’s another topic. And btw it’s not a vanity thing, it’s the ripple effect that jodeci’s style and sound had that still goes on that should go down in the books, had it been a phade that went away like the pompadour then yes grand opening grand closing, but it’s still relevant and ppl have made a lot of money off it, and still are, it’s global and that’s more than noteworthy in black music and entertainment history. And forever my lady should be in the national library of congress seriously, and not just bc it’s a timeless album, but bc jodeci with that album changed black music and hip hop/rnb in style and sound, and are the catalyst for what it is today. In the same way nas did with illmatic, which is in the national library of congress for bringing in a new era of rap and its cultural impact. Nas was the first rapper to actually sing on his own hook. The dates never lie btw. And Devante swing was a debut artist when he started his own label and found his artists which is unheard of bc most young men in his position seeing the fame for the first time and their star rising would only be focused on enjoying that. Really young, talented, smart and a genius. Yeah. He was the first to discover a lot of big artists or work with them when they were trying to get in the industry, idk if it’s true but I heard Chris brown is one of them too, Devante supposedly worked with breezy when he was around 13, I do know breezy did release an album and single/video around that age, but it wasn’t run it tho. I like to look at black history, including music, and I never focused on jodeci, everything just leads back to jodeci being the first for a lot of things we still see today. I’m a huge Aaliyah fan and I know she wanted to work with missy Elliot after hearing the song sugar and spice I believe? I was trying to find more music from the group sugar who sang the song, and came across the credits for it. I saw dalvin from jodeci actually produced that record not timbaland, it’s crazy how timb got the alleyoop, but timb is missys cocaptain so him running off with that sound to do that project isn’t far fetched, but the sound Aaliyah heard and wanted for her soph album was produced by dalvin degrate. And her moving closer to static major and black for her 3rd album makes sense, esp when you hear ppl talk about their dynamic, timbs sound changed too, and no shade to timb either bc he’s really good, those Indian samples went hard. What jodeci started for hip hop rnb is like what Michael Jackson started for pop and music videos. More than a standard was created, the blueprints they laid are now customs - things that are standardized/embedded in our cultures. Things you can’t imagine not having and if it stopped ppl would be confused. Imagine if artists stopped making music videos, imagine if rnb and rap artists stopped working together and didn’t color their hair, or wear face tats and piercings? Art of dialogue would go triple quad platinum on KZfaq from ppl discussing why musicians look and sound different and have no music videos lol. Even if we don’t realize it, we cannot imagine music without certain things adjacent to it.
