"There sits the only king I mean to bend my knee to". That whole speech gives me goosebumps. For a fleeting moment in the series the north is the fiercest part of Westeros and the Greatjon is the fiercest man in the north.

I loved the Umbers in the books, such as shame that they made Smalljon an oathbreaker after his father was loyal to House Stark. I also don't know why they didn't use Greatjon after season 1. The actor who played him did a great job... Not as big as he should be but still I loved him.

The actor who played in the show have problems with the producers and they got him out of the show. He was supossed to be in seasons 2 and 3.

Worse than Bad P***y, worse than no zig zag is Smalljon Umber saying he would have killed his own father if he hadn't have gotten himself killed in the war!!! That line INFURIATED me that DnD could so disrespect one of the most epic characters in ASOIAF for the sake of plot convenience! I almost had a heart attack when my boy, Barristan Selmy, went down in season 5 for the same reason, but this was completely unforgivable for what they did to the Umbers! Anyway, sweet Rawrist, thanks for giving me a forum to vent.

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE UNIT Also, I'm just waiting for Greatjon's jailbreak in The Winds of Winter as he rides north to declare Jon Snow, legitimized by Robb in front of Greatjon as Robb's heir, the new King in the North. Also, that'd mean that Hother would no longer have to deal with the Boltons, meaning that the Umber forces would no longer be divided.

Jon "Greatjon" Umber, one of the most toughest characters in ASOIAF. I loved Clive Mantle's portrayal of him in the show. Such a shame he wasn't able to come back for the second season and Greatjon just ended up getting cut. Great video!

Awesome vid, easily one of the Top 10 greatest ASOIAF supporting characters. His uncles are pretty awesome too & I can't wait to see what Mors & Hothers true plans for the Boltons are. It sucks the show couldn't bring him back for the Red Wedding & at least shown his death but also had him take down like 4 Freys with him. Even the Smalljon on the show was likable & badass as hell, other than the not so likable choices the show made for his character, he was still the dude I almost was rooting for haha

I feel like if GreatJon would have treated with Renly; Renly would still be alive, they would have teamed up with Robb, Robb would still be alive because he wouldn't need the Frey's. Like the whole thing would be completely different. GreatJon would have choked shadow Stannis out with his meaty arm and then be like "alright, let's get the fuck outta here."

I know they tone the magical and legendary items down in the show to appeal more to the average audience but sometimes my book readers heart breaks a bit when the swords look plain or the eyes aren't purple of Daario's beard isn't multicoloured. I also like to yell ''KING IN THE NORTH!''

I believe the Number sigil is a bit of foreshadowing. A giant held in chains on a red field. Greatjon was bound up in chains by men durinf the red wedding, yet still, he managed to fight in them before his death.

Crazily, Clive Mantle who played Greatjon actually had part of his ear bitten off when he was assaulted in a hotel back in 2013!

He´s nice, but the best northener is Lord Manderly, he doesn´t even live in the north, but he is just amazing, they way he despises the Freys is just...He´s like the Lyanna Mormont of the books for me.

I believe were the Greatjon to live in modern times, he would agree that women can't drive, and were he a soccer hooligan rather than a battle commander, a match between Glasgow women and Aberdeen women would be a great cure for sleeplessness. Greatjon, despite his faults this is a man you want with you in war. His manner strikes me as a perfect First Sergeant. He does everything to improve the quality of the army, but does not lead as an officer. Good man.
