I’ve heard Jon Meacham speak many times before - he is such a fascinating and brilliant man. I could listen to him talk all day long - plus that wonderful voice! Thanks so much for having him on, Trevor! We desperately need accurate historians, because those who do not remember history are doomed to re-live it. I don’t recall who originally said that, but it’s so true. I’m downloading Meacham’s book!

That's one of the things i like best about Trevor's Daily Show, he really made some kind of think-tank out of it where authors and activists get to talk about really substantial stuff bc i think Trevor does like to discuss deep stuff like that every show between the funny segments himself rather than trivial celebrity stuff as is the case with other shows. TDS also has i believe the overall youngest audience of all the late shows not only in America, but all over the world (besides Conan, but Conan almost never really goes too much into political stuff, which i think is really a shame btw, considering his iq). That really gives me hope for the world, and America.

X Y exactly what i've been thinking as i've been catching up on daily show clips and going through all these interviews! i tend to look forward to interview segments now because he more often than not has very interesting people on and the conversations he has with them are just so good. the show is a great thinking space and really reflects him as he grows as a person. it's always great to have political satire and it's also to imp to keep the conversation going and keep people thinking.
@xy6845

Right he also puts some real questions out there to his guests and avoids the superficial stuff in his intervies which is rather unique in late night tv i think. And the guests are very diverse. There's definitely potential there with Trevor, i wish he'd have more time for that, or maybe opportunities like simultaneous discussions with different people at the same time that'd be awesome too.

He charmed Trevor Noah for a minute, which was nice to see, but he lost him there at the end. I also see no reason to take solace in the fact that this is the world's most powerful nation with the world's most powerful military. There are other people on the planet besides Americans - and they have to watch this giant, dangerously powerful entity being run by a senile demagogue with anger issues.

What I like is that no matter what party you are registered with, you can vote for whom ever you please - because so far, no one spied on you while you were in the voting box. He's right, 45 is not uique - this is why it's important to keep the internet alive, read the history for and against this country, acknowledge that all people who are naturally born here are country men. AMERICA and her DEMOCRACY is just that, an experiment - and we got away from GB due to excessive taxation and monarchy government. We must get back to who and what we really are - a nation of multiple ethnicities, who can exercise the rights of her citizens to become who they truly are meant to be. Not everyone wants to be wealthy, president, government politicians - some just want to live a life better than the one they left in their former country. "He's doing what he can to prevent people from wanting to come here" I love this interview.

Jo Ann Lewis Great sentiments all. The USA is made up of the indigenous people and immigrants, or descendants of immigrants, not only the naturally born there. This is especially true today, in the age of 1. Globalisation and 2. Historical US interference in all manner of places. Cannot get away from the fact that many problems are of the USA’s own doing, and how they have voted to allow corruption and demagoguery to come in, AND get comfortable.

Ivone de Figueiredo. Great post. I love your last line - "...and how they have voted to allow corruption and demagoguery to come in, AND get comfortable". Mr. Trump is a symptom, not the root of the malaise that is slowly destroying this country. I hope that people have the will and perseverance to do the vast amount of corrective work that is ahead of us. Sometimes I fear that we do not.

I'd vote for that in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, it is like you say- the ability to gerrymander is too useful for 'them' to regulate. Same as things like making the Senate and House use the same health care system that they vote to give the American public. Or that maybe Senators should not vote themselves raises when we are trillions of dollars in debt. Or repeal the hobby lobby decision that lifted limits on campaign finance contributions and created super-pacs and super-powered lobbyists. Shooting down voter id laws that are clearly on the books only to prevent certain socio-economic demographics from voting. That kind of stuff, like anti-gerrymandering laws, would really make inroads to restoring the integrity of our democratic republic- but good luck finding enough leaders in congress and local government to fight the political machine.

If there's one thing I'd love to push out of the American consciousness it's that rather arrogant and outdated notion of "everyone wants to come here" ... it's become such a raspy phrase that gets thrown around by democrats and republicans alike. Who still wants to come the US? Mostly people from war-torn countries that the US had a large part in ravaging and economically destitute regions that were again also largely impacted by American policies, military action or even lack of environmental action.... please most people in Asia and Europe do not want to move the US and if they do they do so rather apprehensively. USA have a great history and great potential but now is not the time to think immigrants want and will want to come here for the best reasons...

Their arrogance is dumb and classless, but USA's image as a 'pot of gold' country is still believed by many, to be frank. Are these people completely aware of all the suffering immigrants endure there? Probably not. But even Trump cannot simply topple USA's soft power, its international cultural stronghold.
@Patrick-jj5nh
@Patrick-jj5nh 6 жыл бұрын
well yea that image still exists to an extent but I'd say it's often very desperate people that actually cling to this 'american dream' fiction which simply isn't real anymore. if somebody isn't from one of the situations I described and not very desperate, say an average eastern european country or a central asian country few of them would have america as their first choice if they thought about emigrating.
@kingjamestres
@kingjamestres 6 жыл бұрын
Pat H What are you talking about firstly the kinds of people who were immigrating to the US 200 years ago are still the same people coming today. Poor hardworking family's there is a reason "the american dream" is a phrase because its the hope for a better future for your family. So yes people of destitute come here they have ALWAYS come here. Perhaps pick up a fucking book before opening your gums.

He didn’t say “everyone wants to come here.” He said “people want to come here.” Contrary to what you believe, a lot of those people are from Europe and Asia. "A multitude of rational beings united by the common objects of their love." Two big flaws: Many people, "on both sides," have proven to be completely irrational. There are many things that one political ideology "loves," like guns for example. that the other does not. So, are we still a nation or have we grown apart so much that it is time for a divorce?

Absolute nonsense. *most* people in the US are moderates -- the vast majority in fact. The difference is, moderates don't go around screaming & yelling & they don't cause mayhem wherever they go, so they don't make the news. SJWs & Anti-SJWs are still & always will be the minority.

For modern civilized people it makes Sense to hear the well informed the man is making... since knowledge, critical thinking and openess are the Key factors for mind progress, unfortunately many are driven by their fear, prejudice, disinterest, and their lack of basic human and society or World facts, they tend to go for someone as destructive as Trump, in the world of 2018! How egoistic and self destructive one would say with a Sense of universal humanity

The power is in the hands of lobbyists and district attorneys. I'm skeptical that we're doing fine at all. But then I'm skeptical that we ever were, considering how much of the population had been excluded from equality. Remember that a significant portion of us are miserable, and whenever we choose to let them languish for the illusion that _all is fine,_ they are entirely justified in seeking to destroy this regime. Regarding them as enemies is no worse than regarding them as inconsequential.

OK, I don't mean to bullshit on the guy, but I'm not necessarily sure whether having the world's largest air forces is a good thing. And it seems like a missed opportunity not to criticize that right after they had Ronan Farrow on the show pointing out how the US is relying more on its military than on its diplomats.

With little notice, President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order that advocates say rolls back hard-fought victories for women in the workplace. Tuesday's "Equal Pay Day" - which highlights the wage disparity between men and women - is the perfect time to draw more attention to the president's action, activists say. On March 27, Trump revoked the 2014 Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces order then-President Barack Obama put in place to ensure that companies with federal contracts comply with 14 labor and civil rights laws. The Fair Pay order was put in place after a 2010 Government Accountability Office investigation showed that companies with rampant violations were being awarded millions in federal contracts. In an attempt to keep the worst violators from receiving taxpayer dollars, the Fair Pay order included two rules that impacted women workers: paycheck transparency and a ban on forced arbitration clauses for sexual harassment, sexual assault or discrimination claims. Noreen Farrell, director of the anti-sex discrimination law firm Equal Rights Advocates, said Trump went "on the attack against workers and taxpayers." "We have an executive order that essentially forces women to pay to keep companies in business that discrimination against them, with their own tax dollars," said Farrell. "It's an outrage." Out of the 50 worst wage theft violators that GAO examined between 2005-2009, 60 percent had been awarded federal contracts after being penalized by the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division. Similar violation rates were tracked through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Labor Relations Board. Now isn't that order very consistent with the sexual criminal confessions we all heard not once. but on two separate occasions during the Axis Hollywood bus. previous to that during his interview with Howard Stern. Former prosecutor Gov. FBI director Giuliani. Said those audiotaped criminal confessions were nothing more than locker room talk. Not according to criminal psychologist brain specialist those audiotaped criminal confessions were much more consistent with a jailhouse confession from one inmate to another. Or a prison reminiscence from one convict to another who are living out there sentencing in protective custody, for sexual crimes are classified as the weakest form of criminal conduct. Not to mention any other prosecutor in the country would take two audiotaped criminal confessions as enough evidence to prosecute. And then when you have 14 witnesses come forward and validate everything that was on those audiotaped criminal confessions.Would be enough evidence to convince any judge of a conviction. Well any judge except for that desperate week insecure impulsive poor specimen of a female judge that goes on and on about how great it is being a submissive trumpet blower. And you wonder why America has the highest violent crime rate in the world. You wonder why America has the highest drug addiction alcohol dependency in the world. And you wonder why America has the most overfed undernourished people in existence. is not all gloom and doom. We can deal with this situation. As a people as physically fit mentally sound and spiritually balanced Americans. At the same time we are dealing with the situation in life. Subconsciously spiritually there souls and spirits are being implemented with, all the pain suffering disease sickness illness torment and hunger that has been allowed to occur over the years manifesting into what it is today. Thanks to incompetent lazy ignorant reckless negligent vindictive criminal leaders supporters employees employers. And now going to get far worse if Donald Trump his submissive trumpet blowers desperately impulsive employees have their way. Now let us thank our heavenly father for allowing Ronald Reagan Donald Trump supporters followers employees like-minded people for subconsciously: coherently apparently volunteering their soul and spirit to function similar to an air purifier water filtration system steam cleaner rubber gloves sponge shield bedpan urinal ass wipes blowup doll. But plug tampon maxi pad diaper jump rope ankle weights wrist weights weighted vest punching bag so forth and so on. Etc. etc. and that is the short list of how their souls and spirits are being treated. Before we get into how their souls and spirits are going to be implemented with all the pain suffering disease sickness illness torment and hunger that has occurred over the years manifesting into what it is today. Keep in mind my submissive trumpet blowers the soul and spirit can endour one up to billions of years worth of pain suffering disease sickness illness torment and hunger .that is just a sample Of the miraculous power of spirituality eternal authority that exist beyond your comprehension for your life cannot commonly comprehend things past your life's expectancy. Now I wish and pray for my soul and spirit to be held spiritually accountable to the statements I proclaim. I guarantee you will never hear another body leader person of legal authority ever validate the statements they proclaim with that level of certainty. If the sun the father the Holy Spirit God the devil Lord Jesus or anyone else with true eternal power and authority over life and death. Felt differently about the statements on proclaiming the had four separate opportunities to keep me dead and silent. The bottom line is you're either part of the problem are part of the solution when it comes to equality between a man and a woman as well as respecting another persons physical freedom. See a dominant gentleman knows how to intelligently persuade passionately convincing a woman to have the desire to willingly want to share themselves romantically. your part of the problem are solution. Either way your being held spiritually accountable. One way comes with a pleasant form of rehabilitation physically mentally spiritually. And the other way is the opposite of the first way. Again I wish and pray for my soul and spirit to be held spiritually accountable to the statements I proclaim. I guarantee you will never hear another body leader person of legal authority ever validate the statements they proclaim with that level of certainty. One reason they don't know themselves therefore they have NO respect for themselves and can't respect others. Secondly is because they are not willing to hold themselves accountable to the way they live their life to the laws the put in place. For the laws they put in place will greatly influence whether you live and die Feeling accomplished being at peace. The bottom line is Donald Trump has been clinically diagnosed by scientists criminal psychologist brain specialist! Leading physicians As being physically and mentally submissive! To fill that massive void a weakness) His plan to stay on the top! Is by keeping the bottom sick week desperate hungry and malnourished and poor by recirculating dirty low-paying jobs that come from outdated power sources inferior materials and toxic substances. That have lived out there usefulness for they have been classified scientifically as petrified death! More commonly known as coal oil and gas dirtiest of all sand oil. Along with other toxic pesticides! Chemicals that never changed their killing composition. You cannot promote life by using a substance that diminishes the quality of our air water food and landscapes. Dirty low-paying jobs very few at that however will have a negative effect on hundreds of millions for only God knows how many generations dirty low-paying jobs that diminish the quality of our air water food and landscapes with the potential of causing environmental collapse there is no profit to be made in the demise of the planet businessman my ass! Just look at the BP oil spill. The man-made water crisis situation in Flint Michigan. The man-made water crisis situation at the military base known as Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. The fly ash spill that occurred from Duke Power in North Carolina. Those are a few examples. . . Of the irreversible damage that comes from working with outdated power sources inferior materials toxic substances. That have been scientifically classified spiritually validated as being physically mentally useless therefore have no true value spiritually. Now a dominant gentleman or lady that knows how to demonstrate high-class sophistication which is femininity at its finest!! for it is raw wild naturally hard-core organically appealing truly captivating absolutely internal eternally spiritually sought after by the gods and goddesses of the ancient royalty, warrior elite...... knows the best way to stay on the top is by keeping the bottom confidently rising in the most efficient way that is humanly possible, allowing each generation to become stronger smarter healthier happier financially better off. For that possibility of a reality to come full circle. The people must have clean high-paying jobs that used new technology. Allowing the people to fully utilize on advanced self sustainable renewable power sources. New Age top notch materials resources, that you could use this much is you would like or need without leaving any excess toxic waste behind. equally as amazing our products can be) Manufactured mass-produced in state of the art facility's I am talking about clean high-paying jobs from coast-to-coast globally. That improve the quality of life by enhancing maintaining the quality of our air water food and landscapes! Products Imports exports personally professionally To the highest degree of standards. Clean high-paying jobs that will be available every day of the week every week of the month every month of the year. I love that he took the time to not finger point at political opinions. that's important. trump is not a partisan issue. the conservative stance isn't an "evil" stance. their party has admittedly taken an extreme stance, and extremism is dangerous on both sides of the spectrum. but on its own? "red" is just as valid as "blue" and an ideal government would be combining the two.
