​@@annasanchez5959 it is very unfortunate that so many people think generally good people (like Jon or Davos or Ned) are lame and you HAVE to like people like Jamie Lannister or Daemon Targaryen (I do like them but I LOVE Jon). And sadly, there is numerous amount of people even in the bloody book fandom who thinks they are cool or something for loving people like Tywin Lannister and hating on good people like Jon Snow. Really shows the mentality of our generation.

@@AprilMarvin I do think people could do better to specify what they mean when they say they ‘like’ a character. It can mean so many things! There’s who you think is morally good and morally bad and who you’d support if you were in the world yourself; there’s whose chapters/stories you most enjoy consuming; there’s who you think is the best-written; and so on! There are so many variations to the question “who do you like/dislike;” we must articulate the exact meaning in order to be on the same page, I think. This is especially the case in very geeky, literary, or academic circles where audiences/readers are thinking about consumption of stories in this complex and layered way. Mayhaps for a passive reader/audience there’s less need for this depth in the discussion.

I'm curious about how literal ice armor would fare against a dragon or a flaming sword or lightbringer /gen I guess like magically keeping it supercooled would increase its strength but even then most metals are stronger than ice, not even considering magic metals etc. Curious on your thoughts ☺️

@@Atinyshark Well you asked so bare with me, cause I've got a lot to say on the subject. Firstly, in the AGOT prologue we saw that The Other's ice swords can slice through ringmail like cloth, and can shatter steel swords. So The Others can definitely forge armaments from Ice that are stronger than common steel. However according to historical accounts of the Long Night, in TWOIAF and The Chronicles of the Night's Watch uncovered by Sam in AFFC, the ice armor of The Others is proof against all weapons except those made from dragon glass, and the Last Heroes dragon steel(possibly a synonym for Valyrian steel) sword. But I don't think it's a simple "rock beats scissors" dynamic. As Brienne demonstrated in AFFC Valyrian steel like the Others ice swords is capable of cutting through chain male with some ease, but can still be parried with common steel. So my guess is the respective materials are about even in terms of strength. So it comes down to a question of heat vs cold. And we also know from the prologue that the Others ice swords are cold enough to freeze common steel. Normally steel has to be subjected to Sub-Zero temperatures for a prolonged amount of time in order to reach its freezing point. Which implies to me that The Others ice swords produce cold much like lightbringer was purported to produce heat. And it stands to reason that their ice armor would work the same way. So if one object produces heat while another produces cold they must neutralize one another. Leaving the two varieties of magic weapons on a more or less level playing field. So while ice armor wouldn't be immune to attacks from Valyrian steel or other fire magic weapons it would probably provide better protection than common steel armor and equal protection to Valyrian steel armor. Now as for dragon fire, according to historical accounts of the conquest, dragon fire can reach temperatures hot enough to melt steel and stone. However, the heat of a dragon's flame depends on their age. And while Balerion was centuries old when he burned Herrenhall, Danny's dragons are not even decades old. And while they have produced flames sufficient to sear flesh, we have yet to see any demonstration that their flames are sufficiently hot to melt metal. Beneath Danny's pyramid Viserion and Raegal were held by stone walls and an iron door. The melting point of most metals is the exact opposite of their freezing point. And as we've already established that The Others' ice armaments can produce enough cold to freeze steel, in order to have a chance of melting such armaments Danny's dragons would have to produce flames hotter than those necessary to melt steel, which is about the same temperature required to melt iron. Which they have already been established as currently incapable of doing. We also have textual evidence that The Others like their armaments produce cold. That being said I don't believe The Others are by any means unaffected by heat that is insufficient to destroy them. Just as humans can endure cold for a time while still suffering the effects of exposure, I believe that The Others can be harmed by lower temperature flames but not immediately killed by them. I suspect this is why they avoid sunlight. So while an older dragon could conceivably produce flames hot enough to destroy The Others and their ice armor, fire from Danny's dragons could probably hurt the Others but not necessarily destroy them before they could escape or attack the dragons. So in conclusion, while I don't believe that flaming or fire magic weapons and dragon fire will be automatic trump cards against The Others I do believe they will be the most effective weapons against them.

Which still makes sense with why Rhaegar had to study this stuff. He never had an egg. Also aemon is old enough to have had an egg of his own. Interested on some of the dreams he could’ve gotten.
