I was just thinking, if ASoIaF never finishes, David's videos will be the ramblings of a super fan. If the series does finish, David's videos are the foundation to a university course on 'Symbolism in the works of GRRM' lol

To me, Targaryens are like modern billionaires, they have unequaled power to make their smallest whims come to life and change the lives of countless small folk. I am kind of with the Maesters and Bernie Sanders on this, no human beings should have power like this, and the Dance is a study in all the ways such power in the hands of individual, unaccountable human beings is untenably dangerous.

The fight with Bran and Pietyr bring up some issues besides what was specifically mentioned: 1) Catelyn probably was unintentionally leading Pietyr on sexually as she was dancing with and making out even after her announced betrothal... 2) Pietyr was treated like Hoster Tully's son so he might have thought he had a chance to marry and improve his lot... Catelyn wasn't super important because Blackfish and Edmund existed. The Fingers although not great would be somewhat politically useful. 3)Pietyr might have been hoping or assuming Catelyn would or could stop the fight and marry him. 4) Pietyr could have assumed Lyssa will somehow stop the fight and then he has a chance at Lyssa or Catelyn 5) Pietyr might had a legit chance at a duel. He wasn't super strong but he was sword trained, fights dirty, and had plenty of time to learn Bran moves AND knew he'd be underestimated. 6) Maybe he was savvy enough to know that getting hurt (not killed) or killing Bran could lead to chaos opportunities 7) Pietyr knew he had no chances politically, and saw King Areys gunning for Arryn and Tully and wanted to look like a Tully/Stark enemy if he won or lost. Also, if he got hurt he could avoid fighting for Tully or Targaryen 8)Pietyr might have been hoping to win courage points and sympathy from the Tully's and Starks 9) Pietyr actually was in love and suicidal

Im guessing all this stuff requires a lot of magic and all magic comes from blood in game of thrones and always has consequences

Your discussion of Banefort/the "Hooded Fort", brought to my attention, that pretty much all the Northern (including Ironborn), names of ppl, forts, even house words/mottos, etc... have to do with death. For example, "winter is coming". As, winter comes for all of us in the end. But they have alot of references to dying, or decay, decomposition, night, darkness, & so on, including a flayed man- no ambiguity there, lol. (In fact, of all the sigils in westeros, the flayed man is the most 'in your face' reference to having evil & harmful intentions, lol- that just occurred to me, but i digress....) Whereas, in the south, its all Flowers and Sunshine, and rain, water, rivers..... Rebirth, Life, rivers & reincarnation..... Even the animals that are used as sigils, & that live in these areas are representative of death- North, & life- South. Like up north, its killer animal, like wolves, bears, crows, carrion eaters. In the south, its rooster, which lays eggs repeatedly, to feed ppl, farms, plants..... I mean, not all of them, theres afew exceptions, though some have interesting histories that explain why, but im sure you get what i mean, without me getting into any detail or exact references. But if u dig deeper into it, north= death, south=life.

I feel like Corlys wouldn't turn on Rhaenerya because of their grandchildren. Going team green would automatically put them on the other side of the conflict against their own grandchildren and their father. I think the grand kids are the only reason they bothered to fight at all.

I’m so glad you had GirlNettles back on because she creates really interesting back and forth with you, and that’s what it’s all about, baby! Exchange of ideas, when you have a guest on. I think the last time she was on she provided a ton of perspective that you definitely hadn’t considered before, I think having a woman’s perspective is incredibly relevant for literally any ASOIAF discussion because GRRM deals a lot with gender roles in the story and Netlles brings new details to the forefront and gets everybody to consider things in new lights, which creates great dialogue between the two of you! Some people just have good talking chemistry and so I was very glad to see you were having her back on😊❤

David talking about Ice and Longclaw makes it sound like they are too heavy. Real swords are lighter than people imagine. He mentions how the katana is half the weight of Longclaw. A katana is around approximately 3 pounds, a longsword should be around the same weight, while a zweihander isn't even double that. He's describing Longclaw as heavier than a real world zweihander. That's a problem with a lot of TV and films, they often make the weapons too big and too heavy compared to real world ones. I'm assuming they do it because they look more impressive on the screen.

I am having the thought that all of this may have started as a ploy by Littlefinger to get Brandon out of the way so he could take his shot at Catelyn, a bloodbath ensued and Petyr Baelish managed to work the situation to his advantage almost as compensation for not getting her.. Didn't get Cat but he did get rich... There are theories that Aerys had twigged that Lyanna was the Knight of the Laughing Tree and Rhaegar decided to get her out of Dodge, and that Littlefinger may have fed Brandon the fake news that Rhaegar had abducted Lyanna. Both may be true. For all we know, Littlefinger may have indirectly fed Rhaegar fake news that Aerys had twigged that Lyanna was the Knight of the Laughing Tree. I think people who think Rhaegar and Lyanna were being reckless tend to leave the KotLT and Littlefinger being Littlefinger even at that young of an age out of the equation.

Didn't get a chance to ask live. Has anyone noticed how Vhagar looks just like a kamodo dragon? I'm sure I'm not the first to say it. However, I watched a video with kamodos this week. That's when it hit me like a ton of bricks. I didn't have anyone to share it with, so it's going here. Imma wait til i get to my laptop to explatiate, but LML you got greatswords wrong. In terms of reproductions, the "sword community" distinguishes between swords and "sword-like objects" (or wall-hangers). Ironically, Girl Nettles spoke about that her Longclaw just hangs on her wall. I dont know the quality of instrument the Longclaw or Ice that you tested out were, but they sound like wall-hangers. Katanas feel light because of where the points if balance and rotation and percussion are. Same with European swords. If youre over/about six foot you can defo lift and manoeuvre a greatsword with ease. Now how long for is a different issue, as you pointed out with strength, stamina and training being necessities to be good at it, but if it felt like a big ol' iron bar in your hands, it was probably just that, and not a sword at all, but a wallhanger. A european sword is not a club. Longclaw specifically is supposed to be able to be used either one or two-handed. (I'm not a Europhile; europe pillaged my country of origin for centuries. Just tryna clarify)

2:33:55 I think what gives credence to this being a littlefinger plot is that Ned got the idea from CAT. He says himself, "I called you here to fulfill the promise you made TO CAT," Just like Littlefinger got Jon Arryn through Lysa, he got Ned through Cat. It's very much his MO. ETA: I wasn't gonna say it at first but you know what, I like you and I think you can take constructive feedback- but I'm super frustrated with how nettles was brought on specifically for her opinions but the overall response to her points is to dismiss them before she really gets her points out. This was just the one that was the most egregious to me- she probably would have landed on cat and Peter's actual patterns of manipulation if she wasn't instantly talked over and it happened multiple times this stream. You and I have ADHD on common so I get being impulsive and wanting the information so you can understand what someone is saying - but I also get having my thought process derailed before I can finish forming it and be told I'm wrong. It's super frustrating. Idk if she felt that way but I would have been frustrated if I was her at this point in the stream so I feel the need to gently throw it out there.
