I think that while his friends were trying to take his car keys away, he managed to leave and try to drive him. He died that night in a one car crash. It wasn't my fault and I don't think it was his friends fault either. All of us tried to not let him drink and drive. It was still devastating. @@1911GreaterThanALL the logistics don't matter if influential groups and politicians are going to block anything related to meaningful gun regulation. The fact is, if we all wanted to reduce the guns and gun violence in this country, we could. Registration, background checks, mental health evaluations, licensing, regulating gun manufacture and sales, buybacks, red flag laws. We could implement a holistic approach and continuously iterate on it to achieve success over the course of a decade. There are tons of proposals out there, but too many people will absolutely take 30,000+ deaths a year (and more in Mexico, where we supply something like 70% of the guns) over any law that threatens to curb their access to firearms, because they inextricably link personal gun ownership to freedom.

A coworker of mine is very much a supporter of gun ownership. She one day during lunch asked why people are trying to stop gun purchased. I proceeded to explain its not stopping purchases. Its regulating purchases. She didnt really understand the difference and said “well wouldnt there still be illegal gun purchases?”. I then compared what the lawmakers trying to regulate gun purchases are doing, to a pharmacy. Something i knew she understood and how it works. Ik its not 100% comparable but its the best thing i could think of. With a pharmacy there are over the counter and behind the counter medications. Ones that you can buy about anywhere, and then ones people need a prescription in order to obtain. With guns that would mean that to purchase a gun you need to ensure that you would be a responsible gun owner. Ensure you are mentally stable, that there are no people in your home who would not be able to use the gun responsibly, you name it. There are still plenty of means of self defense that does not remotely require a gun. And just to clarify. regulating guns and banning guns are two different things. If we ban guns it will make it so any guns in possession are illegal. Illegal gun purchases will skyrocket. And with regulating guns, there will still be illegal purchases, but not nearly as many as there would be if they were banned. Thank you for reading my rant😂😂

@@modernfiddler5475 And that shows the difference. The vast majority of what The Onion did was blend comedy with news and that didn't automatically make it propaganda. From what I've seen, comedy+news is usually either satire or that headline+punchline thing SNL does where you read bits of news and then make jokes about it. (The Daily Show does both). Yeah, sure, but that's not actually how the guns work, that's how big oil works. If it was just "The NRA is bribing them", it would be an easy fix, but you also have to remember that Conservatives are all for guns, they aren't really being bribed as much as they're enforcing the ability to own guns out of their own want for guns and power, not out of financials. I'd argue it's several times more significant than standard oil lobbying ngl.

People always bring up McDonald's coffee when punitive damage is talked about. It wasn't that she didn't know it was hot. It was that it was served at 130°, well above the limit they're told to serve it at. The victim also only wanted her medical bills covered because she had to have skin grafts done on her inner thighs from the 3rd degree burns the coffee inflicted.

@heathermarie5139 3 ай бұрын
@@johannilsson6395it was actually sold at 180-190 degrees. Coffee is brewed at the temp you stated, but it is generally not served at that temperature. No one is taking almost boiling water and pouring it down their throat. It cools in the container it’s held in to get around 140-160 degrees. McDonald’s was keeping their coffee AT 180-190….at that temp, it takes 3-7 seconds of contact to cause 3rd degree burns. McDonald’s had had over 700 complaints regarding burns with their coffee. In a food place that is specifically selling stuff that will be in a moving vehicle in a styrofoam cup, serving it at 180 is negligent. That’s entirely different than coffee brewed in a cafe and being placed on a stationary table.

When are these people going to realize that while they hold tightly to their assault weapons, the true need for them (as some sort of personal protection, as they claim) will be moot. For decades ~85% of Americans supported national background checks. In 2013 the House overwhelmingly passed such a bill. Senators representing nearly ~70% of Americans also voted to approve that bill. But it was then vetoed by Senators who had been elected by less than 10% of Americans. Americans are just as competent at self-government as any other set of humans: Overwhelming majorities of Americans have elected great representatives who have voted to support modest efforts designed to curb firearm violence. And it's not just gun related violence. On *every* issue where the US lags modern Republics the pattern is *precisely* the same. Americans have overwhelmingly elected representation that have voted to pass legislation to address our budget deficits, immigration reform, drug abuse, wealth disparity, health care, etc. The reason, Mr. Stewart, that nevertheless we continually fail to take action on any of these issues is always exactly the same: 4.51% of Americans elected enough US Senators to veto anything. And especially over the past ~60 years, members representing extreme minorities have regularly vetoed legislation that has been passed by members representing super-majorities of Americans - legislation that aspired to address any number of maladies that have only become worse during your lifetime. This is all very well documented by American Political Science. #fixthesematefixamerica
