Jonathan Ashworth has revealed he was forced to seek refuge in a vicarage after being chased down the street during the General Election campaign.
Speaking in his first interview since losing his seat, Mr Ashworth told Andrew Marr he had “never known a campaign of such vitriol, such bullying, such intimidation".
He said during the General Election campaign he was "chased down the street" and "shouted at and screamed at for 40, 45 minutes".
He said he "worried about [his] family and children", sharing that he was "campaigning with [his] 10-year-old because she wanted to help daddy on election day and one of these loud mouths shouted at me that I was genocide Jon, and everybody despised me".

Nice gaslighting from Ashworth, perhaps he may also reflect on his comments concerning immigrants from Bangladesh a largely Muslim country, he is not a victime. If your going to campaign in person if he wasn't aware of the questions he may face and have answers ready for anyone being reasonable, and if he wasn't attending hustings were else could they ask him these questions? I saw some of the video of the sorta thing he's talking about, I saw no evidence of a threat of violence just a snivelling worm running away fro answering questions. In the video I saw his child was not with him.

@@chriswhite82 It's a matter of opinion as to whether calling for a ceasefire is pointless. Had we called for a ceasefire then we might have been able to curtail the USA's support of Israel and used political and diplomatic pressure to arrange the release of hostages and a lasting ceasefire in order to begin discussions to negotiate a peaceful future. Surely I don't have to explain to you why it is in everyone's interests to secure peace in The Levant? A revolution can start by a child simply saying "No!" to those in power, don't underestimate simple acts of defiance. Do you think The Peasants' Revolt was successful first time round? How many decades did women have to suffer imprisonment and abuse for daring to call for suffrage? Tell me, how many lives has been saved by this putrid bullying of MPs who have zero influence over a ceasefire or stopping the killing? That's right, NONE. This is being done in the names of Gaza and Palestine but it's just an excuse to sabotage Labour out of selfishness, spite and revenge. Far-left candidates in the last election were not standing against the record of Labour MPs, they were standing to sabotage Labour MPs. Given it will make zero difference in Gaza, the only victims here are the voters whose needs and concerns will be trashed by the independent MPs who only got elected for their own selfish reasons and not for the constituency they stood for. No better than Farage and the far-right, who also only stand for their own selfish narrow-mindedness and couldn't care less about the wider electorate.

Wrong premise. 'Brexit supporters were doing it chasing MPs [AND REPORTERS] live on camera, everything was fine and free speech .' None of that was fine! And it was all contrary to the concept of free speech.

The Muslim vote he's referring to has in fact endorsed Labour candidates and they just wanted to hold MPs who come into these communities to get votes and then ignore them.

Appalling behaviour, but it has been stirred up by fury at the way the UK political establishment has ignored the Israeli's hideous war crimes. Labour has handled the whole Gaza issue badly. Feelings are running very high on this issue.

Most people are indifferent to it. A weekly protest in London isn't representative of the general population.

We've only got his word for this harressment. The only two videos I've seen is him calling people bullies and loudmouth because they were asking him a question he didn't want to answer. Why did you abstain from the ceasefire vote. If that's the standard, I'm skeptical of his claims. If they did happen as he said, I condemn them utterly

@@rewdwarf123 You might have said the same about the protests about the Iraq war, and yet afterwards we found the majority of British people were against the war (including ex-vets). Many people cannot afford to go to London to protest or they are busy raising kids and can't spare the time. I'm not sure how you'd know most people are indifferent to the suffering of the civilians in Gaza,a re you basing your claim on independent polls? When there have been appeals for aid in previous wars and catastrophes the British people have given generously - we tend to care a lot for others' suffering.
