minamoon01 dude, I went through some comments here and this stuck with me. The corrections is a gloriously funny book and it‘s generally considered that way by the readers, although (haah) some „established“ critics won‘t admit that. However, I wholeheartedly agree with you, I fell on the floor laughing because of Chip and Gary and what they went through, it‘s masterful.

I just read Freedom. Was the best book I've read in a long time. Couldn't put it down and plowed through it in a weekend. I'm very much looking forward to reading the Corrections.

that's fine, i'm not questioning his intellect. i'm just find it ironic and annoying that he's questioning the value of twitter because he thinks people are unable to communicate "properly" on it while he himself is having trouble even communicating that opinion.

then perhaps the virtue of twitter is analogous. if his inability is a symbol of his genius, then why can't the same be said of twitter?

the point of the reduced characters is to induce speed, thereby increasing the human cognition that you claim is lacking. if it wasn't like that, it would just be any other social media platform like blogs or even news media. the point of twitter is to try to be as immediate as speech. therefore, i still think franzen's critique is ill informed and hypocritical. the anti-twitter bandwagon is as stupid as the twitter bandwagon.

If being a fan of complex sentences means you can't like twitter (because you can't quote Shakespeare in 140 characters...) then shouldn't that mean that of foremost importance to you is communication by way of complex thought and so being, when given the opportunity to communicate you'd only do so in that way. If that's not what it means then is it more-so an indication of snobbish hypocrisy?
