Yes, his moves are very bad. But I don't have anything against him. He was taught how to move. I don't know who was a choreographer for this movie, but I guess he never saw comeback special footage. So it's not all Johnathan's fault. Well, for Austin Butler it was a lot more easier, cause we have all the Elvis's footage on the Internet and particularly on KZfaq nowadays. He didn't need anybody to tell him how to move, cause all the footage is available, he could've taught himself and he did.

@@toastertwo1602 the internet excuse can be used for Kurt Russell’s Elvis, this was released in 2005. There was internet. And Elvis’ estate has records of every interview, performance and other media of Elvis so lack of internet is a weak excuse. But regardless, Jonathan himself has said he spent 3 days learning Elvis’ moves whereas Austin worked on it for 3 years and the difference shows. Jonathan has my sympathies but this just looks awful. He looks mental.

I was a background actor (the people who you see in the audience or in a crowd) Johnathan Ryes Myers was by far the nicest person I have ever met to date! I remember having to listen to each song about a dozen or so times! I had blue moon of Kentucky and jail house rock in my head for weeks!

@@Kinobambino my dad was a background extra in the ending scene of the movie king of the world where Terrance Howard played Muhammad Ali. He played a Bartender who hands Jackie Gleason a Drink and he has no lines. in the movie Jackie Gleason was Played by Celebrity impressionist Joe Alasky who died a long time ago sadly and seemed like a cool guy.

Let's not forget a few things. 1. This film was made nearly 20 years ago. Movie making has simply gotten better. 2. This was a made for TV mini-series. It didn't have the same kind of time, money, and talent as feature films. 3. This movie had the direct involvement of the Presley estate. I think it's fair to say that that affected it negatively. 4. That being said, it still touched on some difficult aspects of Elvis' life and character. 5. The young man playing the lead won a Golden Globe for this performance. That matters. Is Elvis (2022) better? By a country mile. In fact, I think it might be the greatest film ever made. Is Austin Butler's performance better? Again, yes. Massively. But this mini-series held it's ground as a solid bio-pic for many years. And let's not forget Randy Quaid's performance here. He nailed Tom Parker. This isn't Elvis (2022), but then again, nothing else is.

This has been sometime ago Jonathan has incredible acting abilities Elvis is a hard man to portray because all we ever saw was an image, so it can become almost comical if not done carefully. Meyers definitely had(still has) the looks but so does Austin just a different stream of time.. each one did their best but in reality there’s only one 👑 King. Thankyou, Thankyou very much…

Austin had 3 years of vocal and Elvis impersonation training and the movie he was in had a way bigger budget and better connection to the Elvis estate. As for this one, it was done in 2005 and with an immensely smaller budget as this was made for TV. Plus, Elvis's footages weren't as easily accessible as they are now back in the day.

Both actors were great for the role. Some of the perceived differences in performance quality are a result of budget and direction. There’s no doubt Austin was amazing but at the same time if Johnathan was working under the same budget he’d probably have closed the gap on Austin to some extent. No denying the stunning performance of Austin though.

His features align with Elvis via the eyes- shape and spacing, face shape, and lips. If they had played more with this actors hair, side burns and eye makeup a bit more their similarities would’ve shown through stronger. I’m a portrait artist so I notice these little details!

JRM is one of my top 3 favorite actors to play Elvis. I think he did a great job. Yes he puts a lot of passion behind his performance as Elvis, and that was how Elvis was in reality, he put passion behind everything he did, especially his music. I grew up with listening to Elvis music, and JRM does a awesome job. my grandfather got to meet Elvis when he came to their school to do a show. And that was before he got super famous.

Isn't it time to lay Elvis life stories to dignified rest ? Elvis was exceptionally unique on too many levels : Looks, moves and a velvety voice that never left him. So much is known about his life already, what's another movie going to bring ?! I like Meyers, and if I was his agent, I would've passed on the deal.

Ok, everyone already knows that Austin is a better imitator, but this film here with Jonathan Meyers is BY FAR the BEST one. It shows Elvis' inner demons much better than the 2022 popcorn version. Don't get hung up on who has the better mannerisms, etc. I recommend the 2005 version.

For everyone saying he was horrible, he won an award for this performance. It remains to be seen if Austin Butler will. For the record I think Austin Butler was better but Jonathan was still good. Look throughout the history of people who played elvis, he was far from the worst LOL also I think the story in this one is better than the Elvis movie because they show more of his life. I really really love the Elvis movie but it was too glossed over at certain points. They even have an actress playing Ann-Margret in this. She was a big part of his life.

The difference is Jonathan learnt Elvis moves in 3 days where as Austin spent 3 years studying Elvis. This difference shows on screen where Austin is embodying Elvis while Jonathan looks like he is having a fit. Have nothing against him, but if you’re of the generation that watched Austin as Elvis first and then come watch this, this just looks awful. Austin may not have won awards yet (something I’m sure will change soon) but he did something better. He redefined a biopic portrayal and proved how perfect it can be. Going forward its going to be a tough job for any biopic actor to do just average job and expect an award. Expectations will be high.

Give Johnathan a break y’all. They obviously didn’t have the budget seeing as this is just a B TV series. Of course he won’t be as good as Austin was in an A list movie, but he still did ok. It’s hard to capture Elvis. Austin was phenomenal but JRM was still good

Jonathan resembles Elvis slightly more than Austin but he didn't get the performances down in the same way. Honestly it wasn't required of him here, but I don't agree with people rubbishing him entirely. He did a fine job as Elvis, just not on the musical side.

I think that out of any actor ever, Johnathan Rhys Meyers actually looks so much like Elvis Presley. He did a dang good job getting Elvis's voice down to speak like the King spoke, especially considering that Johnathan is Irish and has an Irish Accent. I think Johnny Depp would've done an awesome job Elvis when he was younger, like his Cry-Baby days but even Johnathan Rhys Meyers looks even more like Elvis than Johnny Depp. Meyers almost looks like the King reincarnated. It's very eerie to see someone look so much like him. It is definitely something about the eyes

,cannot compare him to.Austin. he's good but WAY OVERDONE. Fscial expressions too much like csricature. AUSTIN IS.ELVIS. in every.way speaking voice. Singing voice. Hand.movemrnts. body.movements. Like ACTUALLY EXPERIENCING ELVIS. NOT some.one "playing him," Jonsthan was impersonating him. AUSTIN WAS HIM!!!!

He's lip synching lol. He is a terrible singer. The only film he plays a decent rockstar was "Velvet Goldmine". Obviously still lip synching, but the songs were MOSTLY original, so it didn't look so forced.

This guy was just as good as the movements and the voice as Austin but he only did the talking voice and for the singing parts they dubed him with real Elvis Recordings while he lip synced.
