Truly inspired. It even has the flaming sword coming out of the bull head of the angel. The bull being the beast of burden that carries memory in the mind. That same memory that prevents a return into the old Garden and forces the decendant to go East into the next Garden and towards the eventual New Jerusalem. The memory of the generation before preventing a return to the Garden of Adam and Eve as well as the memory of an individual preventing a return to their personal Garden of childhood. I love the multi level depth.

That's really fascinating that 'paradise' means 'an enclosed garden'. I recently ran into this Slavic-Norse connection (actual linguists, correct me if I'm wrong): the Slavic град/город (city) is roughly equivalent to the Old Norse root 'gard' (city). Both originally meant 'fenced in or walled area' often being located on a hill, which of course, later becomes synonymous with “city.” Miklagard = The Great City (Constantinople) 'gard' is also the root for 'garden' and 'yard' in Modern English.

This image is wonderful! It's also plain to see the duality at work. I've been trying to reconcile ideas between western and eastern spirituality without seeing them as completely separate from each other, because I do believe we are essentially speaking on the same ideas but calling them by different names. I'm not an expert on eastern spiritualism, but I did study it for a while, and it seems to me that the eastern systems turn its attention on the "ocean" or the conscious potential of the individual, while the western turns its attention to climbing the hierarchy, crafted from the oceanic potential, with the ultimate infinite perfection crowning the hierarchy in mind. The dragon is the pull down or tendency back into the matrix while in eastern spiritual systems exercise a controlled reflection on that matrix. I may be way off base with this so please feel free to correct me.

The Eye of Providence is a Christian imagery. If it came subconciously, that's awesome. It is mostly used to show God, the Father's omniscience, so one can view as that God didn't abandon His Son on the cross but was looking at it.

Other than the Bible, the other “book” this image “interprets and is interpreted by” is the creation itself. So picture all nature as a “book of intricacies” or a “book of one and many-ness” which finds its meaning in the structure of this image, but also if you have insight into any of the sciences, maths, etc. this image can help interpret the things you’re seeing in the way they are best understood (or in the maximum way possible for our abilities in understanding and perception…)
@joshuaforeman2611
@joshuaforeman2611 2 жыл бұрын
For anyone wanting more meaning or further explanation… This image comes from the Bible so the best interpreter of this image is the Bible. If you start in genesis, you can use the image to see scripture and scripture to understand the image. As someone who has studied the Bible for about 30 years, I find this picture really helpful wherever you’re reading. It shows up in everything in one way or another and will make you notice things you’d miss otherwise

I think you are mistaken to view the garments of skin as merely "taking on the animal aspect". They are, rather, symbolic of the covering for sin which Christ provides by His bloody sacrifice, which the first sacrifice of animals to provide the skins signified. St. Augustine does remark that man by pride was cast down to the mortal nature of wild beasts, and Bede quotes this in connection with the garments of skin, and says that the skins contain the allegorical figure of death. He goes on to relate it to the garment of immortality which will be received in Christ. It is surely significant that the clothing Christ provides is obtained through the sacrificial death of the one providing it.

This is really cool. You can really sense the phrase “the Word became flesh” and see the importance the body has in giving meaning and root to the Word. A crossover of consciousness, intellect of the unseen and sensitivity to see what is there. The senses gathering together of information from the material to be taken inwardly …in service, the drink may nourish… or poison The intellects ability to cut, portion and label the World, particularly the things invisible to the senses …as well as it’s potential for domination outwardly. “I think; therefore, I am” seems incomplete. Descartes, what is it that you think of? “I think of the Heavens, therefore I am” sounds okay, but “I think of rocks, stones and earth, therefore I am” sounds a bit silly. One without the other has its drawbacks. To wield only the lance, so tiring; categorizing and fragmenting. A hydra of many heads. “Heaven is this way!”, they say, “after we destroy all the unwanted categories, then we shall find our much-wanted rest and bliss”. To try and taste Heaven by sword and domination, instead of service and submission to what is above mere Earth and matter. Science may be on a fool’s errand to try to understand what a human or who a person is by cutting a human open to find their soul, instead of listening, watching and talking with them. Can one really teach the blind to see and hear again? Time for gathering and communion may not appear productive materially, but spiritually? This is a fractal isn’t it? Death with the thorns on the outside, and death on the cross with a crown of thorns.

The aspirational mind gives the impetus to many deep forms of thought. I guess it’s because the doors to perception are open. Some people seem to think that at certain times under certain circumstances the mind has been raised to a higher consciousness through spirit coming from the divine. Having listened to Jonathan and read one of the Church Fathers (Gregory of Nyssa), I’m convinced that we are enjoying no more than the capacity of the human mind to interact with metaphor to raise meaning to high degree. Gregory’s value to meaning is the joy of a human mind well-suited to find connection in almost everything he reads in scripture. This is the world of metaphor. Jonathan’s mind stretches to do likewise. Sometimes he hits on a wonderful idea. Sometimes he misses his target. There is nothing definitively spiritual about this thinking. It is a good man using a good mind, that’s it. But what if Jonathan stopped wasting his time believing in scripture and joined the effort to raise universal consciousness through philosophy? Religious symbolism has great meaning but it’s only a subset of the greater world of meaning that philosophy in general has tackled through time.
@kokslols8285
@kokslols8285 4 жыл бұрын
"no more than the capacity of the human mind to interact with metaphor to raise meaning to high degree" - who told you what a HIGH degree and a LOW degree is? And where does man fit in the measure? High? Middle? Low?..Or outside categorisation? Is man the end of all things? With nothing existing higher than him? There is measure and value, but you put a cap on it, "this high, and no higher", in terms of numbers it's like declaring "This is the largest number, and no higher", but in terms of quality.
@brendantannam499
@brendantannam499 4 жыл бұрын
I think it’s enough to say we never get told by a source that’s indisputable. We read, listen and interact to form the best opinion we can offer. When you say outside categorisation, do you mean the source is divine? If so, that would be disputable too. As for any blanket evaluation of meaning or how far meaning can go, I was more focussed on Jonathan’s imputations of meaning into scripture, which are the product of study and are as subjective in the end to mine. I also believe Gregory of Nyssa’s imputations of meaning into The Life of Moses can be viewed the same way.

Not sure where that leaves the fig tree. It is dense material... did I misunderstand or are there two distinct visions of the meaning of the trees in paradise?

Also, on the Tree of Life I count 4 fruits on Christ's right side, and 5 on his left, for a total of 9. I am curious about this, because Revelation 22 describes the Tree of Life as having 12 fruits. Every iconic image was once new. It is up to the discernment of the Church to determine whether a new icon meets the needs of the Church. An icon that passes this test will be copied and propagated, while others will be ignored and set aside. That is how Tradition works.

I love the notion of 9 circles. But I also noticed that if you count the two crowns and the two fans, the number becomes 13 whose numerology points to the last supper...??!

@@SpencerTwiddy Help me out here? Why do they need to be concentric?
@SpencerTwiddy
@SpencerTwiddy Жыл бұрын
@@DinoRamzi 2 reasons: First, at 29:11 he explains that he is talking about counts of concentric circles Second, that is what groups them together. There are many, many other circles in the image, but the symbolism of this binding together toward the center; if you dig into the math behind counting, order, and rank, they are fundamentally represented as sets within sets within sets, or in the symbolic language, concentricity.

Hey Jonathan. Just saw a KZfaq on a nba player refusing to kneel during the national anthem. I think his interview afterwards is something you might want to cover. The reporter asked him why he didn't kneel and he spoke about his Christian ethics. The reporter didn't understand him. It was like they were speaking two different languages. It reminded me of the media misunderstanding Kanye's presidential rally. Here's a link kzfaq.info/get/bejne/npqIedqesMmdaaM.html
