A beginners guide to programming routes into the Flight Management Computer (FMC) in the JustFlight BAe 146 in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
* Note - I forgot to mention in the video - although you can programme heights and speeds into the flightplan, VNAV is not implemented in the 146 autpilot. It may still be useful for reference en-route though.

I always found FMC’s intimidating but this video really helped me understand them to the point that soon I’m going to go over this video again and actually program a route. Never felt I could before.

Thank you so much for this very simple explanation of how to set up the FMC. I have been sitting on the fence regarding buying this aircraft. I love it as a passenger. I have been on more flights with it than I can count and really wanted to fly it. However when looking at the complexities, I just got scared off. Now I do believe you made one complex issue way simpler and I will take the plunge. 🙂

You’re a life saver, I already knew how to program an FMS, but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why LNAV wouldn’t follow the legs. I would’ve never guessed RNAV switched on the FMS. So much frustration over a tiny switch.

I forgot to show what the "Direct To" button does. I guess some of the functions - such as holds, and direct to - are easier to demonstrate than talk about though - so probably the subject of another video some time.

Thanks for this informative video, which helps with all those damn FMS/FMC thingies that I find quite intimidating. This info is useful in many other planes.

Thank you very much for this very informative video, it's very much appreciated, I found myself in a pickle when I set my flight plan without a departure procedure and right away got a "discontinuitie" that I couldn't erased from the FMC and it messed the whole flight plan up, just couldn't follow the flight plan in LNAV after that until I used the "direct to" button to a close waypoint 😂

Just what I needed to understand where I was going wrong with the discontinuity, I’m guess I need to tune my frequency to pick up glide slope at arrival and switch over to nav

Jonathan, I've never seeing such a detailed and easy explanation of how this all works, I really appreciate you saving me the 65 bucks for the bae 146,, before this video it was sitting in the hangar.. Question, when you program the different altitudes into the FMC for the waypoints, I assume the plan doesn't descend on its own? do you get the indications from the Air traffic controller voice? What happens when we reach those waypoints?

There's one button up there I've not touched on - VNAV. Vertical Navigation. If you program the FMC, the autopilot will follow the heights too. It's not as accurate as it should be though, because the climb and descent profile is not in the FMC (the FMC is retro-fitted - it's nothing like the one in the real aircraft).

Brilliant as always ! If I put an altitude against one of the waypoints in the cruise, will the FMC show a TOD ? I'm loving this plane, I have that 737 and that A320, but this is like a fast DC-6, way more interesting and truckloads of fun !

Now that I think about it it probably shouldn't, or if it did it wouldn't help, because the FMC doesn't know the descent profile. I've been using 2000 fpm / 250 kts / 4nm per 1000' which seems to be close enough to find the runway or at least the localiser.

Excellent video once again. I am a little confused at 21:40 though, you try to delete the hold but it remains in the flight plan on a previous waypoint. Is that a bug or is there another process to remove the hold? I am going to guess that maybe since the hold is moving to a previous waypoint then it would no longer be a factor in a real world scenario?

Just look at the legs page. If you're talking about the flightplan from the MSFS menu screen - I'm not sure it will take any notice of that - I think you might have to program it into the aircraft itself.

@@jonbeckett I have done thath sids/stars anything. I fly the pmdg and fenix on a regualr basis. But the map mode in this plane dosnt work even when there is a button that says map mode

@@MG-zf1xr Oh - I understand what you're saying now! The screen in the middle is a weather radar! It has nothing to do with the route. The BAe 146 has no graphical rendering of the route - it pre-dates any of those toys :) If you look in the tablet, you can even remove the FMC - because it wouldn't have had one in the earlier versions anyway (and the FMC is a cut and shut of the working title model in the CJ4 - it's not accurate).
