It's good to get back to the FlyByWire A320 from time to time and see how much fidelity has been built into it's systems. Today we do a basic flight from Brisbane to Sydney, look at route planning in LittleNavMap and Navigraph, programme the route into the MCDU, and also look at fixes, holds, and custom waypoints along the way. Lots to explore!

Heh - I realised after landing the reason for the heavy landing - I didn't extend full flaps on final approach! There's always something to forget, and something to remind yourself about :) I swear I'm getting worse at multi-tasking - talking and doing is hard :)

Did the exact same thing just a few days ago. Was a rough landing and then realized I was flaps 3

I think thats also the reason for the terrain warning, it is only inhibited when you are configured for landing and it was expecting full flaps

I'm right there with you - my big one is forgetting to turn the fuel pumps on before start and then wondering why the engines won't start. One of the big helps I found was FS2Crew - the sequence using the button activate mode helps especially for clean up and apu start up after landing. I'll do a complete video of a short flight later today and share it. She has no problems about telling you when you missed something. Thanks for the Video, Cheers.

Great flight! The nose wheel steering is locked out by the insertion locking pin during pushback, after which the pin is removed once the tug is disconnected and the warning disappears. Wasn't nothing you done or forgot. Happy New Year.

I agreed with your points not following the real world procedures. Most of us are not real airlines pilots anyway. Sometimes, the real airlines pilots KZfaqr made it too technical. The job for us is to enjoy the scenery and bring the aircraft in a reasonable approach

The button immediately left of the clear button on the MCDU is the one to use to make the aircraft fly directly over the way-point you need. Simply select the button marked OVFY and then drop it on the way-point marker by the left hand side line select key of the way-point you want to overfly. Great video Jonathan as always

Even though I religiously fly the Fenix, the FBW team are again setting the bar for incredible freeware.

Your custom way points (vectors to ILS) took you pretty much directly over my house in Baulkham Hills! 😂✊🏻

Great job. I haven't flown in the FBW A320 in quite a while. I guess I'll have to get back into the cockpit and out of the GA's for a while.

"Nose wheel steering disconnected" happens when the push back truck is in action because it lifts up the nose wheel from the ground. Great video. Thank You.

Great demo of some of the features of this magnificent freeware. One thing I would suggest is to turn the CNST (constraints) on during key phases of flight (take off, climb, decent and approach).

Nice tips about adding radials and radii. I typically just clear all discontinuities but sometime that leads to joining approaches too close to the runway which makes it harder to get a stable approach. Plus, it adds immersion as I assume with the discontinuities, you would be getting vectors from ATC.
@jonbeckett

Quite often you will see vectors that lead in the opposite direction than the runway - and typically that means "wait for instruction" - not "remove from the flight plan" :)

It’d be cool to see a flight from Sydney to Norfolk Island, I think it’d be a very interesting approach. I believe they previously had 737 flights, but currently are served with A320 fights? Cheers.

Hey Jonathan, I am a little confused when you say LNM doesn't do airways? The calculate flight plan dialog has a slider that lets you decide how much you want to privilege airways versus direct routes and you then find them in the "airway or procedure" column of the flight plan. If you are intent on choosing your own you can replace them in the editable portion of the flight plan description dialog and update. Perhaps I misunderstood you - I learned LNM from you so you most likely know it better than I do.
@jonbeckett
@jonbeckett 7 ай бұрын
What I mean is the graphical user interface does not let you choose them - you can only use them by either importing a flight-plan from simbrief, or specifying them as text - which LNM will then interpret.

another great presentation mate ! Q. finally see how to use the airways in LNM but how(where from) did you get the plan description on the little notepad .. did you just write this yourself( how do you know what fix acronyms to put in) onto the notepad or was it cut & paste from somewhere ?
@jonbeckett
@jonbeckett 7 ай бұрын
I made the flight plan up for demonstration purposes :) If you show the waypoints and jet airways on LNM, you can make sense of it.

Basic. How do you send the FP from Navigraph to the FMS? Thanks
@7willymak
@7willymak 7 ай бұрын
Simbrief is part of navigraph so if you make your fp in simbrief, the fbw a320 has an option to import flightplan from simbrief right on the ipad by the pilot. This will allow you to sync it all over to the mcdu. Most of it with the click of one button on the init page of the mcdu.
@jonbeckett
@jonbeckett 7 ай бұрын
You cannot send directly from Navigraph. You can create a flight plan in Simbrief, then import THAT into Navigraph, and also import the Simbrief flightplan into both the tablet, and the MCDU in the aircraft. Note that importing a simbrief plan into the aircraft will not typically set the SID, STAR or approach.
